Wedding gown/BM dresses - Which comes first?

Hi Girls,

I want to start looking for BM dresses in the coming weeks..really to get an idea on colors/style as I am undecided in what colors I want to use.

Since I have such a large BP (9 girls/9 guys), I figure I should get a heads up on looking at styles that I think will complement all.

So..my question is this...do you think I should just focus on colors for now until I get my gown..then focus on style? I think I have already answered my own question but always value the input I get from you all

P.S. Any color scheme suggestions for a late April wedding?

Your gown comes first for several reasons!

1. Your gown dictates the formality of the BM gowns...you don't want them wearing ball gowns if you're wearing a sheath.

2. Wedding gowns can take a really long time to come in (I've heard as long as 10 months!) where bm gowns take much less time.

It's good to start looking to get ideas, but until you order your gown, I wouldn't order BM gowns.

Hi!

I knew I always wanted to do a deep raspberry color and I knew what color flowers I wanted (I actually saw the color BM dress holding flowers on the cover of a Watters & Watters catalog and couldn't get it out of my head)

So- i went to a Watters trunk show and basically bought the BM dresses first- they were a GREAT deal ($180) so we ordered them... way before I picked my dress.

but- it actually worked out great.. because the BM dresses had some similar lines as my dress

Definitely go for your gown first, and then you can decide color and style. It does take a lot longer than a BM dress

Ours were purchased at the same time. Well, I made a deposit on my wedding gown order. My BM gowns were purchased on the same day. We purchase it exactly one year before our wedding day--August 2001. Our wedding was in August 2002. It worked out fine because it took 5 months for my bridal gown order to come through. I have 4 girls (1 Jr. BM). Our color scheme for a mid-summer's August wedding was Champagne.

We purchased all of it at Estelle's Dressy Dress in Farmingdale including my own bridal gown.

I'd definitely pick out your dress first, because it really does dictate the formality and style of your BM dresses. For example, I always pictured my BMs in something soft and flowy, but since my dress is satin and beaded, I thought they would look better in satin dresses as well. They ended up with something very different than I would have imagined before I ordered my dress.
