UPDATED! Yay! Are You and DH Spending Christmas Morning Alone?

There is a bit of an issue between my DH and I. His father is coming up for a visit, and we're discussing whether he should stay next door at my SILs, or whether he should stay with us.

While I don't want to tell my lovely FIL he's not welcome for Christmas, I still feel like my DH and I should have a nice First Christmas alone. At least for Christmas morning. But I feel like a Wicked Witch for even thinking this way.... After all, it IS Christmas.

Are any of you having relatives stay with you for your first Christmas? How do you feel about it?

Re: Are You and DH Spending Christmas Morning Alone?

we're staying with my parents - we did last year as well. So we have not had a Christmas morning alone.

We have Christmas morning tradtions in my family - one of which is all waking up together and opening presents in our PJs. Even my older sister (who lives only 20 minutes away) stayed over.

I guess next year, since we'll be living in NY, we'll have to decide how we want to work it. I think we may all wind up sleeping over my parents again

If its just as convenient for him to stay with his daughter vs. his son, I don't see why it should be an issue for you two. But you could always have your special private christmas time before he wakes up

Re: Are You and DH Spending Christmas Morning Alone?

I have volunteer work at 8:30am that day, so after that we will head to my mommy's house in NJ. I am so excited. We already exchanged our gifts, so its not big deal where we are in the morning or if we are alone.

Re: Are You and DH Spending Christmas Morning Alone?

It looks like DH will be working Christmas Day 5:15 a - 1:15 p. We'll probably open Sean's gifts and take pics on Christmas Eve (Sean won't know ), since I have to be at my mom's by 1.

Cindy,

We spoke about it again this morning. He understands. But I still feel awful for even asking that his father not be with us on Christmas morning. I feel so guilty and mean....

Re: Are You and DH Spending Christmas Morning Alone?

This will be our first Christmas alone.

The first year we lived together we had his uncle over and last year DH's mom came to visit.

This year since we saw all our family last month for the wedding we are going to saty home alone. (We live in Cailfornia and all our family is back east)

I actually miss having company around the holidays

Re: Are You and DH Spending Christmas Morning Alone?

We'll be alone to open presents and just spend some time together. Then we'll head to his parents for brunch and p[resents, then to my parenst for more presents and dinner.

We did thi slast year and it seemed to work out well, so we'll give it another shot.

Re: Are You and DH Spending Christmas Morning Alone?

Karen,
Dont feel bad. You are putting your feelings first this time, that is all. You gave alot over the months waiting for the sister to move. You deserve to have Christmas morning the way you really want it to be this year. You have mentioned it quite a bit so I know how much it means to you to be alone. Let his sister be the giving one this time.

Couldn't have said it better myself

As for us, we'll be alone in the morning, then off to my Dad's house for the afternoon

Christmas Eve with his family, Christmas morning alone then off to my family.

Don't feel guilty at all. There is nothing wrong with wanting to spend that morning alone with your hubby

Re: Are You and DH Spending Christmas Morning Alone?

We will be home Christmas Morn. just the two of us. We will open our gifts and have breakfast. Then its off to my Parents house for more presents, then its off to my BIL for most of the day, then its off to my Aunts for desert and Kris Kringel exchange! Luckily we are all on LI and will sort of do a circle Wantagh - N. Babylon - Ronkonkoma - Farmingdale back home to Wantagh.
