I am so annoyed! The arrogance of vendors! - VENT!

First off, this is not anyone on this board. This is some guy who responded to an add I placed on Craig's List.

Most of you know I have a Budget vendor webpage I maintain. I troll Craigslist.org to find new people, and I'm looking for a videographer. So I post an ad, very specific, pretty low price for professional videographers but not completely out of the question for people on Craigslist.org. (okay, $700, shot and edited.)

In 5 hours I get 5 responses, people willing to make my price. And then I get this email:

'what you are looking for at that price point breaks out to ( if you 're lucky )
about 15 dollars an hour

i have done many weddings and enjoy it...but your offer is not realistic to
appropriate compensation for this skill set

if you happen to change your mind and decide you might be able to swing
$2500
then I would love to send you a reel of my work and talk further.'

Now, how he got from my offer price to $2500 I will never know. WHY he bothered to respond to my ad I will never know. But how arrogant! Like I didn't know how low my price was?! And I specifically said in the ad that the edit could be very basic.

5 people in 5 hours means that my offer was actually pretty realisitic. I aslo have about 4 other people I'm consider at around this price as well, all of them experienced, one of them a film professor. And $2500???!!!! I could get a deluxe Wild Rose video for that, or Wedding Reels, or Film Jones, or Bliss Productions or ANYONE. WHY would I pay that much to some guy from Craig's list?! And his resume wasn't even that impressive!

I'm just annoyed.

Don't mean to play devils advocate, but I understand his point as well. If you were a professional, who probably considers themselves 'an artist', you might be insulted by people paying you less than what you usually make. Granted you are 100% right, there as no need to bother contacting you, but I understand his fustration.

Just let it go, he is obviously a snob anyway.

NSGraham- I think you provide a very valubale service to those who are on a low or tight budget, I know I have a low budh\get and your site has been very helpful. He should not have responded to your ad if he could not meet the target, and if he had checked out the site before hand, then he would have known that it was not the proper form for his services.

He shouldnt have responded to you. He does sound like a snob. Id want to write him back and ask him why he bothered, although you should just let it go .

Yeah, I almost did, then I realized that 1) I should just let it go, and 2) he would see my real name then (craigslist lets you use a disguised email).

I saw on the site that they were in that range...
That does suck - I thought I had someone and now he only wants to do an edited video for $1500 - too high for me...I am in your range - I just want a record of the day...

I'd be annoyed too. If he's not willing to go at that price then he shouldn't have bothered e-mailing you. Sounds like he's bitter about something (maybe the fact that he's not that good haha) and wanted to ruin your evening too by e-mailing you.

You're right the fact taht you got 5 replies means that someone out there is willing to do the work for that price.

I would ignore the guy. Giving him the time of day only feeds into it. Ignoring him lets him know that you don't need him.

Your site is awesome. I recommended it to any of my friends that are getting married.
