Spinoff: What songs would you like to have, but hard to work in
I'd like to have some Pink Floyd, one of my favorite bands ever. Though I don't know which songs would work, or how to work them in.What strange songs do you want played?

I would probably want some old Sabbath.. (but the FW says I can have Ozzy's 'Crazy Train' ).. so that works for me
Alice in Chains (anything from the album 'Dirt' but most probably 'Angry Chair')
Like you, I would have something from Floyd.. something from The Wall.
I wish we could play very old Metallica.. but that WILL not happen for obvious reasons. Ride the Lightning or Fade to Black just won't work at the happy nuptials.

Not to hijack my own thread, but what the hell is a dollar dance? I just saw this on the net, and it struck me as very odd.

and give them money to do it for like 15 seconds. I've NEVER seen this done, but I don't go to a whole host of weddings.

Re: Spinoff: What songs would you like to have, but hard to work in
I saw a photo of a bride and groom dancing and dollars on the floor all around them at one of the photographers' places. I was like, 'OMG! Look! Someone had the nerve to do the dollar dance and actually record it for posterity!'
My taste is eclectic. Nearly all of my favorite songs won't get played at the reception, because I'm the only one who'll appreciate them...
Indigo Girls version of Romeo and Juliet
Any songs from the musicals Chess, Closer than Ever, or Starmites
The Piano Has Been Drinking
Fingertips- They Might Be Giants
And I Think It's Gonna Rain Today
Calling All Angels
Anna Begins- Counting Crows
I sooo wish we could have My Little Chicken (Adam Sandler) as our first dance. However, 'love the way that you eat gravel to help you digest' is probably not going to be amusing to many people other than us.

Re: Spinoff: What songs would you like to have, but hard to work in
there are a lot of songs that my fiance and i would want, so we decided that we are going to pick some of them for the cocktail hour and some for when people are eating.the last wedding i went to they played tons of good music during dinner. songs that i would have never thought to play which spurred the idea.
we're going to try to get some counting crow, beck, dave matthews, phish, floyd, radiohead (hopefully) all in. we'll see if we are successful.

This is actually NOT the Dollar Dance done at weddings. This is the Dollar WHINE, done at West Indian dances. It's a dance you do, but no one gives you money.
On 'cent' you stick your pelvis out to the left, on '5 cent' to the right, on '10 cent' to the front, on 'dolla' to the back. At 'Dolla, dolla, dolla, dolla' you do them all really quickly- you have to see it. It's fun, but like 5 years old at least and very played out. Gotta fight misinformation. The Dollar DANCE is something different. Don't know what that is.

That's a good idea, I can probably throw some Floyd into the dinner music.

We're doing something similar.
However, 'She's an Angel' by They Might Be Giants is one of 'our songs'. That and D'yerMaker by Led Zeppelin. We need to have those during the dancing, so that we can dance to them (which will look funny, but I don't care).
Also, my country music will probably stand out like a sore thumb with all the other music, but we'll work that out somehow.
To whomever posted 'Fingertips' - YOU'RE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Spinoff: What songs would you like to have, but hard to work in
I think I read somewhere that the dollar dance is an ethnic thing, but i forget what ethnicity.Weird Songs:
I went to a wedding wher the couple requested 'Talk Dirty to me' , the running joke now is that I have to find a band that can play it at my wedding. . .
and YEARS ago, I went to a wedding where someone requested that Ugly Kid Joe song, 'Everything about you'. The dj prefaced it by saying it had nothign to do with the couples feelings towards each other.
I too love Alice in Chains, so its porbably best I'm not havign a dj.
I also know a couple who had 'Nothing Else Matters' by Metallica as their wedding song.
And they gave little bottles of booze as there wedding favors.

Re: Spinoff: What songs would you like to have, but hard to work in
I think putting some of the 'undanceable' tunes in during the dinner portion is what we're doing also -- its a great idea.Gotta figure in a way to get Dave Matthews in there also, and I don't think too many people aside from my cousins (and FH) likes them..
Our tastes in music, unfortunately, do not go hand in hand with dancing .. but I cannot offend the old folks with a lot of Metallica, POD, Rage and Korn .. (that would be what FH would play the entire time!!)
Though we ARE being introduced and walkiing into our reception to the Marilyn Manson song 'the Beautiful People' .. ok, don't ask!

I would love The Cure, Smiths, Depeche Mode, Erasure...you get my drift but they are hard songs to work into a wedding and don't think my band is too familiar with these songs.

We are big Van Halen fans, and had our band learn 'Dreams'. We had our bridal party introduced to it. It worked out very very well!

I've had the pleasure of witnessing this dance not once, but THREE times. Upstate weddings are good like that.

I'd want to hear some Preal Jam and Bob Marley...just not sure when that would be incorporated.

Re: Spinoff: What songs would you like to have, but hard to work in
Like a lot of you, we'll have some of the 'un-dance-able' songs during dinner, but there's one song I would love to hear and it's just not going to happen. 'You're all I need' by Method Man and Mary J. Blige is one of our old school songs from when we were first dating. If we had a DJ it would be fine, but I just can't see my band pulling that one off. lol!Welcome New Vendors
