For those of you that printed your own envelopes..

Did you print the address directly onto the envelope or did you use those clear labels? I want to do it directly onto the envelope, but I'm a nervous that if it messes up I will lose an envelope and I only have a couple extras. What program did you use to print the addresses on the envelopes and how did you align them?

What would you suggest I do? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: For those of you that printed your own envelopes..

I printed mine directly on the envelope after using a substitute for testing. I made about 5 'fake envelopes' using folded paper in the exact size of my envelopes and tested my spacing/text/etc on those. I did have a couple mistakes but those were my fault, not the printers. Good luck!

Re: For those of you that printed your own envelopes..

I also printed directly on the envelopes. I cut out sheets of paper, the size of the envelopes, to get all my addresses aligned correctly and to do a few test runs.

Unfortunately when we started doing the envelopes, it was hit or miss with the inner envelopes. We had a horrible ink blotching problem. On some of the inner envelopes, we got ink spots! E

The outer envelopes came out great! Sometimes the envelopes got stuck and the printer printed directly onto the roller! g So we had to clean the roller quite a few times.

I think it depends on your printer, wether it is tempromental or not. (we have an inkjet printer--I think laser jet works better for this task)

After, probably the 20th inner envelope getting splotches of ink on it, I gave up caring! Whoever got splotches, got splotches. Tough. I waisted too many envelopes, and people don't even notice anyway!

I just used photoshop, but you could probably use microsoft word, or any program you can type in.

Definately do a few test runs first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!c

Directly on the envelope. I printed a sample on regular paper but made the margins the size of the envelope (File- page setup...) and it really cut down on guesswork time

Re: For those of you that printed your own envelopes..

I am planning to do my invitations this weekend. I want to get them out Monday- Tuesday.

I am planning to do them on those clear labels. I don't think you will even be able to tell that they are labels and not right on the envelope. I tried one and they looked great!!!

Re: For those of you that printed your own envelopes..

I printed on the envelope and I lost maybe 5 all together. (they got jammed)
You should do a lot of tests, cut paper that is exactly the size of your envelope and run it through to make sure it is exactly where you want it.
I just used MS Word. The font was edwardian script.
GOOD LUCK! and take your time!

Re: For those of you that printed your own envelopes..

Directly onto the envelope. I did this for my save-the-dates - I have all my addresses in an Access database and then I used Word to format the envelopes. I wound up wasting about 3-5 envelopes playing around. If you can, don't do it all in one sitting, it will drive you nuts .

Re: For those of you that printed your own envelopes..

Thank you all so much for you input. I am going to try to do it directly on the envelope and will use regular pieces of paper to line it up as you guys suggested. I have a lazer printer so hopefully I won't get the ink spots. I'll let you know how it turns out.
