buying a house too far out! anyone live in miller place/sound beach??
we looked around for a little while but then found a house we loved. it's further east than we had wanted but we couldn't afford anything in the towns we preferred. we've signed the contract a couple weeks ago. now i'm wondering if i made a mistake. does anyone else feel this way once they are locked in?

Re: buying a house too far out!
I think it's normal. FH and I are about to begin a building project in PA and every now and again I second guess moving up there... but then you have to take all aspects into consideration.

I think it all depends on where you work and how long you would like your commute to be. I would love to live on Eastern LI where I grew up but my FH will always work downtown Manhattan and since he works crazy hours, living out east isn't an option for us. Ideally, I would love to live in Manorville.

My sister just bought a house in Miller Place... it is so nice there. We grew up in Rocky Point (right next to Sound Beach) I also loved living there...we were going to look out over there but what you need to keep in mind to get to ANY main road LIE, Nortern State, ect.... takes atleast a 1/2 hour 40 min
so that is why we are staying were we are because DH has to go to the city alot

same here - it's tempting though - the prices are a bit more reasonable out East!

My DH would love to move back to his hometown (Sayville), but we both currently work in the city and, as an attorney, I will probably always work in NYC.

We wanted to stay in the Babylon area, especially since my FI works in Brooklyn, but we are buying a house in Selden. It is further outeast but its only 3miles away from the LIE and he works off hours so he said that it was ok with him. BTW, his daughter and my family live in Rocky Point and that was way too north so this way at least we are closer to them also. I have questioned our decision a couple of times, but the house is perfect for us and we both loved it, and got a great price.

My FH andd I are closing on a house in Rocky Point in July. We both work on LI so the commute won't be too bad. It will be a change for me b/c I live in western suffolk. For my FH and I it was an area that was in our price range and seems to be a very nice area. I am lookking forward to getting into our own place.

We bought in Rocky Point...and coming from the Huntington area, yes, it was a huge change...and it was 'scary', and I doubted myself...but we've been here 6 months and we love it. Everyone is still reachable! Oh, and my best frind bought a house in Sound Beach...I really think it is an up and coming area, and eventually you will not be able to touh these areas. Good luck!
