Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!--EDITED on 7/26/04- OLD APRIL POST< LET IT GO!!
The good part, I was wasted and had lots of fun. BUT, now no one is who getting married there get upset, but this was just my opinion on this wedding!!I'll start off with cocktail hour. NOt enough chairs and tables to eat at. I wound up just getting cold antipasta stuff and standing the whole time, let me tell ya my tootsies were hurting. THe cocktail hour wasn't all that spectacular to me, they had a carving station that was chincy on the meat. The eggplant parm was spicy(I know this cause family members actually ate and got seats). To me, they rushed getting the other wedding's cocktail people out of there and didn't even vacuum the rugs. The food was cramped together and too close to the entrance. It was mayhem cause the table cards were set up about 4 feet from the carving station.
It just seemed dingy and dirty to me. THe same went for the room upstairs. They had curtains near the bar area and all you saw was piles and piles of yucky tablecloths.
As being 100% italian, their sauce tasted like ketchup with some garlic in it. The bride chose a spring salad with walnuts, didn't touch it. Entrees were Filet Mignon and chicken with brandy sauce. or salmon. 1/2 our table sent back the meat cause it was still mooing, and the chicken tasted like it had heinz brown gravy on it. I heard the salmon was ok though.
The waiters asked me once, what i wanted to drink. They did clean up tables pretty quickly though and bring drinks when asked too.
The woman who was letting us into cocktail hour and the reception area had an attitude problem, which no one was too happy about.
Bathrooms: There is only 1 bathroom in the whole place with 4 stalls and while 2 weddings were going on at the same time, I never waited to use it. Very weird..
All in all, I went home extremely hungry and couldn't wait for breakfast the next morning.
Just my opinion from a guest point of view. EVERY WEDDING IS DIFFERENT. I hope I didn't upset too many of you, but I had to give you guys a GUEST'S REVIEW. I will not and should not edit...

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend
this was my review (i went to a wedding there last year):the cocktail hour was fantastic - what a spread! the 2 things i did not like were:
1) the staff was rushing the guests out from the CH, and they were cleaning up while doing so
2) tip jar at the bar
everything else was really nice! it was a beautiful day, and i liked hanging out back by the water...

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend
I dont think JA brides should be insulted. If I was a JA bride I would take this info to the BM and express my concerns. Many of us have never been to an event where are wedding is being held - of course everything looks great when they are showing you the hall, but most of the time you dont get to know how an event there really works. Although some of the review was harsh it was just an opinion.

Why should she edit?If it was bad it was bad? I won't even say what I thought when I looked there.
I agree the brides should take this to their BM and complain and make sure this isn't what their guests walking away thinking.

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend
I dont feel she should edit! It is HER opinion...maybe just add to the title 'my opinion'I think part of the problems that can occur is that people are really sensitive about their location which I can understand! BUT remember this is ONE persons opinion! I know plenty of people who have been to weddings there and had nothing but wonderful things to say about it!
I know about 5 people who have been to weddings at my hall in the last 6 months and recently I have begun telling them, 'all I wnat to know is did you enjoy yourself' I dont want a review of my hall because honestly at the end of my wedding day what matters is what I think and no opinions I get of someones wedding 5 months prior to mine really affects that!
JMHO!

My sister had her wedding there last June and I thought that everything was great! The place is absolutely gorgeous and the staff did a fine job.

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!
I am sorry if I upset JA'S brides, but I do believe if you have concerns to take this to your BM. Some of the things I posted are absolute fact and not opinion, tablecloths piled up behind a curtain in the reception area, not enough tables for everyone to sit and eat in Cocktail hour, the rugs in the coctail room and reception area being dirty and un vacuumed. I know not everyone shows up for cocktail hour and people mingle, but you can't bank on that, there were alot of people standing and eating. These things I WOULD DEF talk to them about.I would do the same(talk to my Banquet Mgr)if I read the same thing that a guest walked away from a wedding with the same experience. I wasn't the only one who had this opinion who attended this wedding. 8 of us went home wanting to raid the fridge. I am not the type of person who sugar coats things, and I know I would want to know how my guests feel the hall did. Once again, my apologies if you are insulted..
(I edited it to add caps and opinion titles)

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!
I think she should NOT edit her response. I think if I was bride at that location, I'd probably be grateful to her because it will give me things to stress to my Banquet Manager to make sure that it doesn't happen at my affair. I feel that these are the kind of responses these boards should be all about: Candid, Honest, Straightforward Responses either if they are good or bad.I think this will give future JA's Brides something to work on. I do hope that in the future, All of US, LIW Brides can post honest opinions. I'm quite sure that some of JA's brides when doing their planning, would approach the BM's with a different perspective and reviewing and stresssing with them what's important. I'd be very upset if my reception area's rugs were not vacuumed or things pile up in the entrance area. Neatness is very important. Hope to see more reviews like her that express the contents of information that at least I'm looking for. That gives room for things to stress on with the facility

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!
my FMIL has been to 2 weddings there in the past year and she has been to practically every hall for a wedding in the past 10 years. She really likes JA. She tells me all the time how nice it is there and what a great place it was. She’s also quite a stickler and to impress her is not easy.
You never know what this person paid for and did not pay for. maybe they went bear bones to save some $.
I would just discuss it with them.
They also may not have been expecting so many people and went ovr their count.

I agree with the other ladies, no need to edit, people are allowed their opinions... No matter what, you can never please everyone, as long as the bride and groom are happy, well the bride at least

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!
I went to a wedding at JA last summer. The only thing that really turned my off was there was not enough seating at the cocktail hour. This pissed me off because the CH is my favorite part of the wedding. I had to stand and eat, which is difficult enough and then get pushed into. I ended up really not eating much at the CH since it was such a project. Everything else though was perfect! All in all, I did have a blast at my friends wedding at JA. Just some advice to JA Brides.....Specify you want enough seating for your guests at the CH.

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!
If someone said things like that about my hall, I would talk to my BM and make sure it doesnt happen to me! I wouldnt switch halls and I wouldn't be mad at the person for expressing their opinion. Of course no one wants to hear negative things about their hall, but I would rather hear the good with the bad, not just sugar-coated versions of the truth.

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!
The whole reason we didn't book at JA's was because of the lack of seating at the Cocktail hour. - The room they were going to give us for CH had seating for about 75 and we are having prob about 200 for wedding! We did not want half our wedding having to stand during CH and balance plates and drinks!Welcome New Vendors
