I went to a wedding at JA last summer. The only thing that really turned my off was there was not enough seating at the cocktail hour. This pissed me off because the CH is my favorite part of the wedding. I had to stand and eat, which is difficult enough and then get pushed into. I ended up really not eating much at the CH since it was such a project. Everything else though was perfect! All in all, I did have a blast at my friends wedding at JA. Just some advice to JA Brides.....Specify you want enough seating for your guests at the CH.

A lot of places believe that people should be mingling during CH and that is why they are sparse with the seating.

I never went to a wedding at JA - only a Bar Mitzvah. The CH was nice - the food was OK. The one thing that put me off was the stacked tables behind curtains. The tables were fully set - salads, rolls, water glasses, plates, utensils - stacked in two's. I found that really unsanitary.

True - but at some point I feel like everyone wants to sit down and eat and be comfortable - that's just the way we felt about it...

ANY bride that has an upcoming wedding there I wouldn't worry too much. I had my wedding there in Aug and we are STILL getting compliments as the best wedding people have ever been to. I asked around, no one had a problem with the bathrooms, everyone said the service was amazing, never had to get up for a drink and always had a full one at their seat and everyone raved about the food.

We had not one complaint from our guests or ourselves. We are actually very much lloking forward to going to a wedding there.

You have to take one persons opinion in stride, yes they are entitled to it, yes they should say how they feel, but no you don't live by what ONE person (honestly that I've ever heard of) has to say

I don't think I've EVER heard of a wedding where EVERY guest loved it. There is always at least one person at every wedding who has a bad experience...JMO

you are not alone in your reveiw. My aunt went to a wedding there a few weeks ago and had much of the same complaints. It seems since the place changed owners recently, the quality has suffered. My FH and I came very close to booking this place, but got scared when we found out it was in bankruptcy. so glad we didn't.

Do yo know who their DJ was. We booked Dance Jock & I think they are John ANthony's house DJ.

I went to a wedding there a year and a half ago and loved it. We had a choice of a million entrees and the food was great! The salad was wonderful and so was dessert. I don't remember the cocktail hour, but I usually walk around during the CH and say hi to everyone so I wouldn't notice the seating problem. All in all I really liked it!

They had a band..wish I remembered their names. They were okay. THey butchered our future wedding song and AT last by etta james, very sad.

I just want to add that I DO NOT think anyone should edit their opinons...I know many of you are thoughtful and dont want to hurt the feelings of other brides, but if what we are looking for is an honest opinion, than that shouldnt be sugar coated. If we cant be honest with eachother then what good is this board?

BUT Thanks to all who tried to spare my feelings...we already put too much money down to get it back and hopefully by NOV they will get everything back in proper order...

Just like one of the girls said in the previous post it may have been what kind of package the bride & groom opted for. Yes it make me a little nervous but it is to late to back out now. People are entitled to ther opinions. I am sure everything will work out great for us MILLION04 ! I will also let you kow how everything goes for us in July!

I think every reception hall will have someone who had a great experience there or a bad experience there.

I think it's not the greatest to insult the food because the brides getting married there can do nothing whatsoever with that information. They can't demand better food to be made. But for things like the staff rushing people out of CH, cleaning during CH, the brides can take these prlblems to the banquet manager and ensure that it doesn't happen at their wedding.

I've been to many weddings at CH where there weren't enough tables and chairs. That happens a lot. Happened at Swan Club, happened at Crest Hollow, and it could even happen at mine. And I've heard of many places where the food wasn't that great either, but other people may disagree with that. Everyone's tastes are different.

Wow! That's just mean! You don't even know me how do you know how much alcohol I can drink without losing memory. NOt that i have to explain myself but, I wasn't sloppy drunk and I HAVE NEVER blacked out due to alcohol I do not drink myself silly. For your info I had 3 drinks the whole night. Nor am I going to edit anything...with that said

Yes, everyone's food opinion is different and JA's brides may not be able to do anything about that now, but at least future brides can hear OPINIONS. WOW, girls, why is everyone taking this soo personally?? I went to a wedding, had a good time, and wasn't impressed with JA. Just thought I would give future brides who haven't picked a place yet some insight on a guest's review of a place before they booked.

Can't anyone give an honest opinion without being flamed. These boards would have no point if everyone came here and gave A++ reviews on everything. If that was the case everyone who posted would be vendor advertising and marketing their place, product, service.

not only can you give future brides who haven't picked a place yet some insight on a guest's review of a place before they booked, but you give those who already have booked something to look out for on their day. it's helpful!

everyone is entitled to their opinion and people should be confident with their decisions. what i like someone else won't and vice versa. if this was reported about my hall, i would be THANKFUL and make an attempt to make sure this does not happen on my day!

I had my BM write on my contract XTRA SEATS FOR COCKTAIL HOUR!!! I wanted everyone who wants a seat to have one...standing & eating sucks!

I think as long as it is an HONEST OPINION & not fabricated just to upset a bride, then NO ONE SHOULD EDIT anything they have to say!

Any future brides of this hall, take these concerns to the BM. Just tell them 'I've heard this may have happened at a wedding here', this way they can either explain it or deny it and put you at ease.

I told my hall that I heard possibly the included cake may be dry & tasteless, and she wrote on the cake order for the baker 'Make sure cake is Xtra MOIST!' I don't know if it will work, but I'll let you know in, OMG, 39 days!!!

Do you mind telling me who your BM was? We were vehemently told by the BM we were working with that we could not add one seat, one table - no way!! She started out so nice, and got so difficult!!! Ultimately, that's why we decided not to book them!

As a past John Anthony's bride .. I just want to throw in MY thoughts...

Regarding seating during the cocktail hour ..

of all the weddings I have been to .. at a wide range of places (like Crest Hollow, Fox Hollow, North Ritz, Larkfield Manor, Imperial Manor, Harbor Club, etc). ...

there is NEVER enough seating at the cocktail hour!!

Wow.

I think that this post was a helpful one. It is different from some of the other posts that write..such and such hall was just awful or that place is just nasty. She gave reasons to support her opinion thus it is a review and not just bashing.

Coral house got bashed and its funny..alot of people had never attended an event there..but those who honestly had gave different ideas of the areas for improvement..which I promptly bought to our BM and what happened..Everyone raved about the food..(caught on video my guests stuffing their faces repeatedly lol) and loved the Ch which I must add..had more than enough room fo the guests to sit lol (they provide seating per the guests invited.

So a post that is honest and not meant to hurt can be written...its when its just outright bashing where it gets hurtful.
