Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!
i think that a negative review can be helpful to future brides of john anthonys. my mom went to a wedding at my hall a few months before my wedding and anything that she had negative to say i addressed it with my bm and none of the problems that my mom was concerned about happned at my wedding. chateau braind is always getting negative feedback on waiters removing the plates to fast that was one of the issues i addressed and it didnt happen. i think that knowing so negative things gives a future bride the chance of addressing them having something revided in her contract etc to avoid that happening on her day.

Sidebar: Seating at Cocktail Hour
This is always such a heated issue for Long Island weddings......honestly most if not all of the weddings I have been to which weren't on Long Island or Manhattan had absolutely NO seating at the cocktail hour.I know this is important to people around here (including us), I just find it another amusing difference of the way weddings are here versus other places in the country

any wedding i have been to... i have never got a seat at the cocktail hour
most halls do not provide enough seating... it is a time to mingle
i hate standing but i am used to it
True - but at some point I feel like everyone wants to sit down and eat and be comfortable - that's just the way we felt about it...
that ius why there is a sit down dinner....JMO
most halls do not have 2 rooms the same size that you can occupy for a large wedding

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!
my place purposely only provides seating for about 20% of the guests during CH. they claim the whole idea of CH is for guests to mingle and walk around while eating small foods. The reception is for sit down.

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!
this topic was bumped back up again.Actually, It isn't true that every hall doesn't guarantee 100% seating during CH..
As soon as that Monday rolled around after that JA wedding I called Villa to make sure all my guests had a seat...they do guarantee 100% seating.
CH is for mingling, talking, most people arrive during CH, BUT if your place only guarantees 20% seating, then for your guests sake don't have a carving station and foods that need to be eaten with a knife and fork cause no one will want to stand and eat with a utensils.
Just don't think that's fair..

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!
A NOTE FOR THE JA BRIDES:Frankly - JMO - its more the people at the wedding, not where they put the extra table cloths that really matters (Honestly now!) - I usually notice my date - and how much I get to bust out my solid gold dance moves (lol). I mean - if you were drinking AND noticed that there were crumbs on the floor - it sounds like it must have been a wedding full of 'not as fun' people. I've been to horrible weddings, and great weddings - and it all depends on the people there - not the consistency of the gravy on your chicken! JMO - naturally
JA Brides you have nothing to worry about - your guests will be as thrilled as I was to see a glowing bride... cheers to your JA wedding!!!!!
JMO - I think it should be edited - there are ways to say things, and there are ways not to say things... if there is a huge thread about this... I would say an edit may be in order JMO JMO

this can't be true..... because the hall may guarantee enough seating but in reality it is people who sit together and leave a couple seats open at a table that prevent people frm sitting...
in the past if there is a seat or two left at a table and we don't know the people....i don't go and sit down as do many people feel the same way
CH is to mingle and you will never see everyone sitting.... that is why there is a sit down dinner!

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!
AS i have said previously BACK in APRIL with this post. I will not edit...not everyone likes everything everywhere and I am sticking to my opinion.Once again I am getting flamed cause I didn't give the place an A++++++++++
Secondly, the insulting comments that take place on this website/post are childish. People have opinions, everyone is entitled to that, but if you can't say anything but something mean and insulting to that person directly than don't say it..(ie:noticing crumbs on the floor mean the wedding was a bunch of dead beats???)... Uh no, but honestly, JA should have vacuumed after the last party and brought the table clothes to the laundry..
With that said, this post should not have been bumped from April...Let's let it go....

Hey no hard feelings! - I was trying to make light of the review - if you said it and are sticking by it be prepared for people to have opinions about what you said. Especially people who mortgaged the houses to have a wedding there. If I were a JA bride I would have preferred to hear it a bit ligher. JMOI read old reviews, and sometimes they get bumped.... its a chat room... these things happen.
Don't get so fired up about it! We are all in the same boatHell - if I knew how to edit posts I would take out the dead beat comment since it offended you

Just for the record (and to keep beating this dead horse/post over and over again)I have never wanted to sit down during the cocktail hour of any wedding or event ever!
Isn't the point of a cocktail hour to mingle??
I understand if you are elderly or have an injury, but come on people! Walk around a bit!

I agree. there is a sit down reception for that purpose. I have never been to a wedding where there is 100% seating. I want people to be by the bar and mingling and sampling all the foods.

Re: Went to Wedding at John Anthony's this weekend..JUST MY HONEST OPINION!!--EDITED on 7/26/04- OLD APRIL POST< LET IT GO!!
I went to a wedding at JA's in June. It was very nice. There was no issue with the bathrooms; I don't even think I ran into anyone from the other wedding.
As for the cocktail hour, the food was good. Nothing spectacular but decent. There were enough seats for everyone. Maybe the availabilty depends on the size of the wedding. As other posters have mentioned, I have been to many weddings where there were not seats for everyone at the cocktail hour. It is nice to have seats but I guess it is the time to mingle.
I was not crazy about the reception dinner. No one at the table ate the dinner. The salad was overdressed. The entrees were dry. Service, however, was terrific. Our server was very constantly asking if we wanted water or anything from the bar.
I would prefer to hear about the good and bad about my RH. I would rather try to address these things with the BM than find out afterwards that people were dissatisfied.
Other than the things I mentioned, the wedding was great. No wedding is perfect. We had a great time at JA's.
