You should be looking into it now. It will take a few months to regulate your body and give the ability to skip your period for a month. I do the pill only because I prefer the Orthotricyclen for my skin but I'm seriously considering the patch because I forget that damn pill all the time.

Re: NWR ... When do I need to go on birth control?
I agree with everyone, the time is NOW!!! I work at an OB/GYN office and the doc's recommend that you be on BCP's for three months before you 'skip' the off week and continue with a new pack. There is a new BCP on the market called Seasonal and when you are on this one you get your period four times a year. The OrthoEvra patch is okay too if you can't remember to take a pill everyday-but some people are very sensitive can have some nausea and tenderness as the patch emits an amount of estrogen in one specific area (your torso or your back hip) and it must distribute to the rest of your body from there.
Call your doctor on Tuesday and get in there as soon as you can!! Good luck!!!

Re: NWR ... When do I need to go on birth control?
If you have never been on the pill before, I would suggest you go now. Your body will have to adjust to the medication. You may have reactions to it like nausea or gaining of weight for the first couple of months. You do not want to wait too late. The earlier the better.

Re: NWR ... When do I need to go on birth control?
In order to not have to use an additional form of protection, let us say on your honeymoon, you need to have been on BC for at least two months prior (to be safe). But, in order to be sure you won't get your period during that time, all you need to do is keep on taking the pills. That is, skip the part where you get your period and start the new cycle immediately upon finishing the course of pills containing the hormone. This will not harm you, provided you only do it for that one month.
Best of Luck!

Re: NWR ... When do I need to go on birth control?
My personal experience - I will never go on the pill again. I did not adjust well - I gained weight (10 pounds - 1 month) and felt like I had PMS every day.

Gotta be carfeul with that too, I just skipped one now so that I won't have it on the HM in October and had what they call 'breakthrough bleeding' for about 10 days and then had my period. Miserable!!
Also, IMO, the patch does not allow you to 'control the crazy' I have a psychological reaction to the pill and it makes me really depressed, so I take it at night right before bed so the heaviest hormonal hit happens when I am sleeping - the patch doesn't allow you to control when the hormones hit.
Good Luck!! Men will never know what we go through!!

Re: NWR ... When do I need to go on birth control?
I am on microgestrin and I love taking the pill. I've been on it for several years now and have never had a major problem. I used to take orthonovum, but I started to get headaches on my off week, so I switched to a lower dose pill (micogestrin or brand name - loestrin FE). I skip my period all the time and never have a problem. I tried the patch for a month and hated it! My skin was itchy and my boobs were super swollen and sore. Anyway, I think you should see your dr. asap to find the pill that is right for you!

You should probably have to go back to your doctor and had your pills changed. Not everyone take the pills and find the right one for their body right away.
