I am heartbroken over this..please read! UPDATE LAST PAGE!

Ok this is long I must warn you..

We found a stray dog on Memorial day. She was filthy dirty, seemed to have been either abused or hurt in the streets and was very timid. We decided to nurse her back to health. She gained weight, is a beautiful white color with tan markings and is just the sweetest dog ever! She is still a little nervous but just adorable. Suffice it to say, I fell in absolute love with her. We tried to keep her but with 2 other dogs in an apartment, it was just not working. So I called around because my main concern was that she wasnt put down (Kathy116 knows this

) and no place even the aspca could give a definite answer that she wouldnt be. So we kept her even longer...

Fast foward to this past Friday..we took her to the vet, I wanted to find out basic things about this 'mutt'. She is 20 pounds, about a year old and is in perfect condition. She had a microchip in her neck so I thought for sure we would find the owner through that..no such luck..it was never registered.

Although through the chip, we were able to find out where she came from. So we called the place, House of Puppies in Flushing, Queens and we come to find out she is no where near a mutt...she is a rare purebreed from Japan called a shiba-inu and is worth money!

Now dont get me wrong, I care nothing about the money, I just want to find this precious animal that I have grown to adore a loving home. In all honesty, I dont even think I would want to find the owners now because why arent they looking for her?? I called 54 vets from queens, to long island to manhattan and no one reported her, I checked websites and nothing. I tend to think maybe she just wasnt wanted?

I guess the reason for this post is if anyone is looking for a wonderful, kind, gentle dog I have one for you. Or if you have any idea where I can bring her (not north shore, they arent accepting at this time) where they will promise not to put her down for any reason, I would greatly appreciate it. My heart is breaking because I love her so much so it would be wonderful if I could find a loving home for her through here.

take her to Bide-a-Wee in Wantagh. They will take her/him and not put them down.

That is so sweet of you to do so much work to try and save this animal's life.
Maybe you could research breeders of this type of dog and call them to see if they want the dog. Most breeders are very compassionate animal lovers, and I'm sure they would be able to help you.

Try Little Shelter in huntington! I was gonna ask you to post a picture except I can't fall in love with her since I already have three doggies at home.

oooh yeah - since it is a purebred, try to search for a rescue for the breed!

I have watched LIweddings for many years pretty much when they first got started I was a wedding vendor and never advertised with them, but have watched brides needs so I know the trends. that is why I only have an initial. I am no longer a wedding vendor but my heart loves watching the bond you women share and it warms my heart to see everyones compassion. If I gave Liz my company name she might remember who I am so you can confirm with her if needed my honesty.

OMG, how can you NOT love that face??? I wish we could have a dog at our apartment...I would take her/him in a heartbeat!!!!!!

You are such a great kind person to do so much for this dog....its people like you who make the world a better place!

I second wc0143's idea about contacting the breed rescue folks. I've talked to volunteers at several of those groups, and they are wonderful, caring, and devoted people, much like you are.

What a sweet dog. She's lucky to have found someone like you to watch over her.

You are so sweet to take such good care of this dog....I would love to take it but we are never home and that would not be fair to a dog in a new environment.

Bless you for saving this dog. I wish we could take her but we can't have dogs in our apt.

The Freeport Humane Society is also a no-kill shelter. I hope someone adopts this pup!

My mom has a mini pinscher who was dumped from a puppy mill- she had to have a c-section and therefore was no good to them any more, so she was put on the street. I wonder if something similar was done to this dog.
