Hamlet Wind Watch 8-14-04 Review - Added Pictures and some Proofs!
Thanks to everyone for all of your input and help as I planned my wedding. I found the information on this site extremely valuable. Here is my honest vendor review. Most of my vendors were excellent, and there were few disappointments.Wedding Salon of Manhasset – I had no problems with my dress. The women there were nice and very helpful. We also got the bridesmaid dresses there. The first time we went for bridesmaid dresses, I took only my matron of honor. We were there for an hour and didn’t find anything, but still had dresses to try on. We were told that we only had an hour per appointment. I left annoyed and disappointed. However, I called to make another appointment, told them about my disappointment, and they told me I could come again and stay as long as I wanted. We went back and had no problems. A
Denise from Angel Eyes Makeup – She is a sweet lady. She showed up on time and did a great job on my mom and me. A
Men’s Wearhouse – We had no big problems with Men’s Wearhouse. My dad’s tux did not fit, but they fixed it right away, and the groom’s tux did not come with cufflinks, but he was able to pick them up before the wedding. B+
Favorite Things Invitations – Rebecca was really great to work with. We communicated mostly by e-mail, which was so convenient for me. She did our invitations, favors, menus, table cameras, direction cards, place cards and programs. Everything looked great! A+
Headsessions – I have been getting my haircut here since I was 13, and they’ve done many updo’s for me. I was very happy with the way my hair came out. A
San Marco Ristorante – We had the rehearsal dinner here the night before the wedding. This place is excellent! The food and service were superb and everyone was raving about what a good time they had. They made up personal menus that said ‘Welcome to Kate and Adam’s Rehearsal Dinner’ and had our menu choices. It was such a great way to kick off the weekend. A+
M&V Limos – They showed up early with the correct cars, with the correct alcohol in each car. The cars were clean and the drivers were nice. I know they have a bad rep on liweddings, so hopefully they are turning things around. A
Perceptions Photography – We had Anthony and Dominick, as well as their videographer. They did a great job the day of the wedding, and I am confident the proofs will be great. I will grade them after seeing the proofs. ETA: Just received my album, and it is amazing! Highly recommend Perceptions.A+
Sterling Music Ensemble – The ceremony musicians were fabulous. I communicated with them only through e-mail and they showed up and played everything beautifully. They really made the wedding ceremony even better. A+
The Scott Yahney Band – This band is from Faze 4 Orchestras and they were excellent. Everyone raved about them all night. I loved all their song choices and they really got the party going. One bad thing however: I spoke to Bob and Faze 4 several times about song choices, etc. I told him that no one except the best man was allowed to have the microphone. (I didn’t want lots of toasts) After the cake was cut, DH’s brother sang us a song, with the band accompanying him! We couldn’t believe it. My BIL is not a singer. He wasn’t very bad, but what if he had been? We didn’t pay thousands to this band to hear BIL sing. I am very surprised that they allowed this. Some people thought it was still the band singing, and they were wondering what happened to the singer’s voice! Other than that, they were excellent and I do recommend them highly. A+
************* Florist – The first time I met with Jack, we discussed my flower choices, and I told him I wanted peonies. I had already been to one florist who told me that peonies were out of season in August, and she wouldn’t be able to get them. Jack told me that he would be able to get them. He showed me an order form from last July, showing that he had ordered peonies for a wedding last summer. Then he showed me pictures from an August wedding where the bride had peonies. I believed him, so I booked him. Then I gave him a non-refundable deposit.
The next time I met with Jack he told me that he couldn’t get peonies. I felt lied to and used, but he already had my non-refundable deposit, so I stuck it out with him.
At our third meeting, Jack made me a sample centerpiece. This exercise was pointless because the centerpieces the day of the wedding looked nowhere as beautiful as the sample. Each centerpiece had about 3 or 4 lilies, which looked great in the sample. Out of 14 centerpieces the day of the wedding, not one lily was open. The centerpieces looked like they had so much filler, and they looked cheap. The delivery guy told me ‘that can’t be helped.’ Funny how they were all open for my sample.
Also at our third meeting, I gave Jack several pictures of my church. I pointed out where I wanted the altar flowers, etc. My MOH got married last year and lent me ivy bunting that she used to decorate the railings at her country club. I gave them to Jack to decorate the railings outside my church. My church has three sets of steps, with railings on each side, and in the middle. I wanted the ivy on the three middle railings. I gave Jack a picture and circled the railings to be covered. I also took pictures of the pews at my church so he could figure out how the pew bows should be attached. My church is round and there are 7 pews in the center aisle. I wanted each pew to be decorated, so it was 14 total. (one on each side)
The two delivery guys arrived at the church at 2:00. DH and the groomsmen were there. The mass started at 3:00. When the bridesmaids and I arrived, they were still setting up! They were putting together pew bows while my guests were arriving. Then the pew bows fell off and guests had to re-attach them. They also put the ivy on the wrong railings, and my mom’s friend had to tell them how to do it. The church had 14 pew bows to attach, and it took them more than an hour. When asked about it later, ************* told my mother that the church had been unavailable to them until 20 minutes before the ceremony started, which is a total lie. They were there at 2:00. The ceremony started late, therefore ended late, and we ended up having to pay $250 overtime to the limos.
The bouquets were beautiful and the delivery for bouquets and boutonnières was correct. The altar flowers were also beautiful.
Hamlet Wind Watch – We loved it! Working with them beforehand was a pleasure. Anytime I had a question, someone was available to answer it and they were so nice throughout the whole process. The food and service were excellent and everybody loved it. I highly recommend the Hamlet. A++
