Your dress - is it more unique than the 'typical' wedding gown?

I am not sure I posted my question correctly....
I will try to explain. I have trieded on 100's of bridal gowns. I have found many that I like and feel they are very pretty. However, none are making me say woooow, this is the one!

I am wondering if I could just be a person who doesn't do this.....or I am wondering if the fact that I am hoping to get something bridal-like, but very unique!
Most of the dresses I have tried on, i feel are very similar in style. The 'typical' bridal gown. When you hear bridal gown, this is the type of dress you envision.

If you have bought a dress that you feel is unique for a bridal gown. Could you let me know where you found it? And post a picture if you have one?

Thanks so much,
A bride-to-be a little frustrated with gown shopping

Re: Your dress - is it more unique than the 'typical' wedding gown?

My dress is definitely different. It is more princess diana like in style. After I decided on it, I noticed that all the other dresses were very similar. Once you looked at them, you 'got' what the dress was about. But my dress needed to be studied. There are so many different aspects that make it beautiful.

Re: Your dress - is it more unique than the 'typical' wedding gown?

I totally understand your feelings. I chose my dress because its different than any I have ever seen. Unfortunately I don't have a pic of it (can't find one anywhere, which is nice). I got it at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. It was a bit pricier because if its unique-ness so be prepared! My gown is by Stephen Yearick for YSA Makino...check out the websites, but my dress isn't on them. Good luck!

Re: Your dress - is it more unique than the 'typical' wedding gown?

I just wanted to tell you that I sort of went through the same thing when I was gown shopping. I don't think I ever really got that feeling but I did 'just know'. I don't know where you are looking for gowns or what your price range is but I know that once I allowed myself to try on dresses in the next price bracket, there was a whole lot more 'wow' to be seen.

Here are two gowns that I don't think are your typical wedding dress... the first one is my gown by St. Pucchi from the Avine Perucci line. The 2nd one is my friend's new wife (they just got married Sat) and she was in this Monique Lhullier.

Here is a link to my photo album of my first dress fitting:

I fell in love with my dress as soon as I put it on. I think I found it after trying on about 30 dreses or so. I was definitely looking for something unique and it just took time and exploration. I went to about seven different bridal salons and checked out lots of sample sales as well. You have plenty of time to find a dress. Good luck!

Re: Your dress - is it more unique than the 'typical' wedding gown?

I think that my dress is a little different. I liked it because it seemed like a cross between a wedding dress and a costume from a Shakespeare play.

I also felt my dress was more of a princess Diana type.

Re: Your dress - is it more unique than the 'typical' wedding gown?

Personally, I thought my gown was very unique. The things that made it unique to me were the inverted box pleats, the unique pattern on the bodice and the waist area had a gathered sash thing going on.

On my wedding day, so many people told me how beautiful and unique my gown was.

One lady said to me when I go to a wedding I barely notice the bride's gown because most look the same to me, but your's was stunning. When I look at pictures from our wedding day, I cannot take my eyes off the gown. It was gorgeous !!

My dress is very detailed with some color. I had to be different and I did not want bright white.

Re: Your dress - is it more unique than the 'typical' wedding gown?

I was a little concerned about this dress since it feels more like an evening gown. But those ball gown types didn't suit me and a felt like carrying around would be a workout-Here's a pic-

Re: Your dress - is it more unique than the 'typical' wedding gown?

I got two wedding gowns, both not the typical gown. The first one had colored detail, the second one I got because I wanted a straight skirt part without tulle after seeing pics. of the first dress that had tulle. I decided on something I felt was more sophisticated than princess-like, which I consider 'typical.'

Re: Your dress - is it more unique than the 'typical' wedding gown?

for the longest time i was convinced that i wanted one of the 'different' wedding gowns that i saw in the magazines. but then when i actually tried them on, they just weren't too flattering. and then i started thinking that i don't want to look at my wedding album 20 years from now and say to myself, what on earth was i thinking wearing THAT?!?! so i decided on a dress that you might describe as more 'typical', but on the other hand it is also timeless, elegant, and unique in its own right. and i felt like a bride in it, which i think is the most important thing, since i'm only going to feel that way once in my life! so i think you should go with whatever dress gives you 'that feeling', no matter what it looks like!

here is a pic of mine, though it's from the back and in a completely different color than mine. up close the detail is amazing
