Videographer.. will I regret it if I don't have one?
I am trying to decide if I really would like to have a videographer document our wedding day. I know that everyone says the day goes by so quickly that I will want to have a video to look back on. I'm just not sure if I want to spend the extra money on it. Sometimes I think I'd rather have the money to use elsewhere in the wedding plans. Those of you who used a videographer, did you feel it was worth it? Those of you who chose not to book one, did you wish that you had? Please advise! Thanks!

Re: Videographer.. will I regret it if I don't have one?
I think it depends on the sentimental value attached to it. I loved watching my parents' video, I see how my future nieces and nephews love watching my FH's brother and SIL's wedding. I want my children to be able to look back on ours. . .

I totally said I didn't want one ... and about three months before the wedding decided I had to so I wouldn't regret not having one.

I originally wasn't going to hire one, but so many people told me that i would regret it, and that you'll get to see a lot of stuff that you missed because you're so busy during the reception.

I say get it. I like alot of the pics my photographer took but he missed some great moments. Our videographer caught them so if I didnt have him..I would be soooooooo upset.

Re: Videographer.. will I regret it if I don't have one?
GET a video!! Trust me ...as the time goes on our wedding is even more of a blur.We dont know what the band played - or who was there - or anything - we both said how grateful we were that we got one (we almost didn't) and how we can't wait to see it to see how the wedding was, who was dancing, the expressions on our faces, what the rabbi said. etc...

I did not have one, and I am happy that I spent the money elsewhere. As a surprise for us a few people went and bought us a video camera/digital camera and taped the ceremony for us, that was nice! But I really am glad that I spend the money elsewhere.

Re: Videographer.. will I regret it if I don't have one?
I originally thought it would be intrusive to have a videographer ont he day of my wedding. But then I spoke with a woman at work who was not going to have a videographer...at the last miinute they decided to go for it.
About a month after her wedding, her father suddenly passed away. Her wedding video is the last footage they have of him alive - so it is even more precious to her now.
After hearing that...I realized what a wonderful keepsake it would be to have. Pictures are wonderful....but the video is somethign completely different.
I would go for it!

I feel the same way. We did not have a professional video and I'm not sorry about it for one minute. I voted for #4, by the way. My parents didn't have a video of their day and I enjoy just looking at their pictures. Like DLWDLG, we had two guests (BIL and nephew) tape the wedding with their own cameras and that was just fine with me. Maybe this is an option for you.

I guess that I'm the first person to say that I didn't get a videographer and I don't regret it. I just got our proofs and they are beautiful and really capture the evening for us. For us all we really wanted were the pictures taken at the wedding and our memories.

Get a video! I did and am so happy. Like another post mentioned, the day goes so fast I watch the video and hardly remember any of it. when I first got it, I watched it over and over and always noticed something different going on..Also, there a few relatives who have passed on and I have them on video dancing the night away!

Re: Videographer.. will I regret it if I don't have one?
definately get video of it... even if you buy a $200 camera and have someone you know tape it..... it will definately be worth it and they will capture footage that you wont see

Re: Videographer.. will I regret it if I don't have one?
I'm in the same boat as you. I started out saying I didn't want one and then everyone started telling me how they love theirs and I should get one. I'm torn.. It is money I don't really have to spend. FH doesn't really want one.. but I think I do now.I'm leaning towards getting one.

Definitely get one!! I started out thinking it wasn't necessary and changed my mind pretty quickly after munerous friends who got married told me how fast the day goes and how much you miss.My wedding day was a complete blur and I can't wait to see the video - even though I think it will make me sad at the same time!

Re: Videographer.. will I regret it if I don't have one?
The only person (my sister) I know that didn't hire a professional videographer totally regrets it. All she has is amateur video of us getting into the limo on her wedding day and her calling us 'a bunch of idiots' because we didn't move far enough into the limo to leave a space for her. It is hilarious to watch and we crack up everytime we see it, the whole family (my sister and her husband included) wish we had video from the entire day.

Re: Videographer.. will I regret it if I don't have one?
Well, I can only tell you of our experience. We debated on having a video and knew we did not want any kitsch or interviews or pictures, just a literal documentary of the day. So far we only have our raw footage but everything you have heard thus far is true...it is just different from still photos (and we got loads of those.) My dad was the one who married us and I am so thrilled to hear every word and every inflection -- I say go for it. Nadine Graham, who got married a few months ago, generously created a budget vendors page and I believe she had some inexpensive video options. I do not know the link but I am sure you can FM her or ask around -- she was on these boards a lot before the summer and is a really lovely woman.

Re: Videographer.. will I regret it if I don't have one?
Whenever I need to make a decision like this .. about whether to do something or get something .. especially something that's a 'one-time only' type of thing .. my theory is .. if I need to question whether I should do it/get it .. I should just do it/get it .. my reasoning .. it's better to have done it/gotten it and laugh later to myself for having done it/gotten it .. as opposed to being angry at myself for missing the opportunity. This was key thinking for me when I was struggling with the idea of hubby and I getting all dressed up again to have outdoor photos taken days after our wedding, since we didn't get to do them on our wedding day because it rained .. and that thinking was right on .. because we are SO, SO, SO happy we went through the hassle of getting all done up again .. so much so .. that I can't even believe I ever thought about NOT doing those photos.
You only have one chance to do this .. better to have the video, then risk the possibility of having regrets later .. (which may end up being years down the road)
