I don't know the details of pet insurance, but my DH tells all his clients that it's the smartest way to go. Your vet's office probably has a few recommendations.

I have pet insurance. I got it for my 2 kittens when we got them because I was spending a TON of money on my older cat with vet bills... for the kittens it is $10.34 each per month for the plan I chose (there are different plans). We have it deducted from our checking account each month.
We haven't had to use the insurance yet (thank god!)...but it basically works like this. When you go to the vet you pay and then submit claims and they reimburse you according to their schedule. For example, I have a $40 deductable and then each thing is paid for up to their limited amount. Each plan has different limits.

Which vet do you go to that takes this?
East Meadow Animal Hospital (Hempstead Tpke & Newbridge Rd) But they don't "take" it per se... you have to pay upfront and then send in the receipts and forms to the insurance co who sends you a check. I got like 75 back on a 200 vet bill for the shots and checkup this year. It doesn't seem like much - but if my dog eats something bad or gets into an accident -- it could easily be LOADS more.
