Ladies I need to pick your brains about an assignment my neice has on the privatization of health care

She needs to debate that she is for the privatization of health care. However, everything that she finds is against it. What I don't understand is 'What is privatized health care' I am not a stupid person, but I don't understand this. Can someone explain this to me? How can I point her in the right direction? Thanks ladies!

Re: Ladies I need to pick your brains about an assignment my neice has on the privatization of health care

Ask Bush if you want a reason FOR it...I am a democrat, and against privitization (which is the health care system in the US today).

Publicly funded health care for every American would eliminate frivolous costs in the health care system, level the playing field between large bussinesses and small bussinesses, which have less purchasing power for group health-care plans, and ensure every American with the basic necessities of health, regardless of income or occupation, and allow for more lifestyle options, such as working two or three part-time jobs instead of being forced into a single full-time job to be able to get health care.

The only plus I can think of is that there would be layoffs should we go to a publicly funded system, as it would eliminate private health insurance companies....It is truly a case of the rich prospering when health care is privitized...

AND there would be more room on the golf course for non-medical professionals.

I know this didn't help, but I couldn't resist the funny.

Re: Ladies I need to pick your brains about an assignment my neice has on the privatization of health care

I do not know too much about it, but I do know that in England they have a public health care system, and although the price for it is higher taxes, the benefits are lesser costs on drugs & unlimited doctor visits, as opposed to what we have now which generally requires us to have a referral for every friggin visit.

The one downside I will share is that if your Dr. determines that you need a specialist or a procedure that is not immediate-life saving, you are placed on a waiting list that can extend for years, depending on what procedure you need. Also the Emergency rooms are quite crowded on a regualr basis in an attempt to bypass the aforementioned wait list.

Also, unlike our healthcare you cannot 'upgrade' coverage. For example when I signed onto my ins plan I could chose from 3 different sub-plans. This (as far as I know) is not the standard under the public system

Hope this helps

Re: Ladies I need to pick your brains about an assignment my neice has on the privatization of health care

I'm not very familiar with this topic but what I understand the privatization of health care to be is the health system that we have here in the U.S. where as the health system that is in Canada is the opposite. In Canada, health care is open in that all hospitals/doctors etc treat all patients. Where in the U.S. we have hospitals/doctors that don't accept certain insurances or none at all therefore if you have $$ you can get the best care.

Debating for privatization is a tough one. I guess you could take the doctors/hospitals perspective.
