Photographer Timing Question (Getting Married at the Hall, doing pics beforehand)

Ok, so I spoke to my photographer yesterday about what time he needs me ready so that I could make my hair and makeup appointments. We're taking our pictures beforehand and the arrival time for the guests is 6PM. He told me I need to be ready at 1:30 (4 miles from where everything is taking place).

Does that make sense to you guys?

Re: Photographer Timing Question

Hmmmmm....that's a bit early don't you think? I guess he gave you that time to MAKE SURE you're ready. My photographer is coming at 1pm and I'm getting married at 3pm (no pics beforehand with FH) but I guess if you're taking ALL of the pics (including extended family) then I guess that timing is ok.

Re: Photographer Timing Question

Yeah, that's why I'm asking, it does sound REALLY early to me. I don't want to be fully ready at 1:30 when my ceremony doesn't even start until 5 hours later!

Re: Photographer Timing Question

It seems a little early. I was told to be ready by 1pm for my 3pm ceremony.

Re: Photographer Timing Question

Hi date twin! How is the planning going for you??

I have been trying to figure out exactly the same thing. We also begin at 6pm and are taking the pics first. Are you planning on going to a park or somewhere outside to take pics or are you going to do them all in one place? Depending on what you are doing, you may need more time. I am assuming that since it will be early April, it will be too muddy to be outside, so we plan to take all our pics at the wedding location. Personally, I think 1:30pm is way too early. Do you really want to be in your dress for that long before the wedding? I would be nervous that it would give me WAY too much time to mess it up!

Right now, we are thinking that we want to be ready by about 3pm and meet the photographer for pics around 3:30pm. I may not even put on my dress until we arrive at the synagogue where we are getting married... and I think I will make them take as many shots as they can without me, before I actually get into the dress. The thought of posing for more then 1 1/2 hrs for pictures makes me antsy already!

I am curious about what others have to say.

My invite time is 6, and my photographer said to have hair and makeup done by 3pm. We are taking pics at the place....

Re: Photographer Timing Question (Getting Married at the Hall, doing pics beforehand)

I am also thinking about taking pictures prior to the ceremony, it's a very good idea and my ceremony does not start until 6:30pm...I'm still trying to figure out if I want to see him before I walk down the aisle, I may want to go take pictures at Long Beach and then head to the hall afterwards and then I will be able to enjoy my cocktail hour more, I have to see...

Re: Photographer Timing Question (Getting Married at the Hall, doing pics beforehand)

maybe he means 1:30pm is the time you should be ready for him to come by and start taking pictures of you getting ready?

otherwise it does seem sort of early...

That could be the case, I should have clarified it. Now that I'm doing the math, we have the photographers for 10.5 hours that day. The whole thing ends at 12 so 10.5 hours before that is 1:30. I guess they could come and when I'm ready, I'm ready right?

Re: Photographer Timing Question (Getting Married at the Hall, doing pics beforehand)

My FW still to this day doesn't feel the need as to 'WHY' we need to take pics of her getting ready. She is like 'what for?'.

LOL... i am like 'thats just the way its done.' Then I told her I wanted the second photographer for a few hours to take pics of the guys getting ready and she flipped out on me!

Date twin!!! And, I assume you're getting married at Jericho Jewish Center so we're getting married basically across the street from each other!! We should meet up and take pics together that day

So I just realized, as I said in the post right before this, that in order to get all 10.5 hours that we're paying for, they have to come at 1:30. I guess I can decide when I'm going to be ready then. I think it'd be cool if they were taking pictures of me finishing up my makeup and getting dress, no?

Re: Photographer Timing Question (Getting Married at the Hall, doing pics beforehand)

LOL yeah. I think she is more concerned because of the cost of the wedding. Its getting a little expensive and she feels we wont be able to come up with the cash.

I am going to talk to my parents and try to get some cash from them to help out (don't think that will be a major issue).

I'm doing the same thing, I'm going to get ready at home, and just put on my dress at the synogogue most likely and my photographer told me we won't start taking pictures until 3,3:30....but he will be taking pics of me getting ready which is earlier obviously, but posed pics of the BP won't be until 3ish and my wedding begins at 630

Re: Photographer Timing Question (Getting Married at the Hall, doing pics beforehand)

Yup, Jericho Jewish Center. How funny that we are so close by!

I think I will be doing the same, having the photographers come and start with pics of me getting ready. But, that will depend on how I am feeling... I tend to get cranky when lots of people are milling around, especially if I am kind of stressed out to begin with. We'll see!

Re: Photographer Timing Question (Getting Married at the Hall, doing pics beforehand)

Our photographer started several hours before the ceremony also...

you want plenty of travel time (it's taken me 30+ minutes to go 4 miles on LI at times).

you want to get to the ceremony site before your guests so you can freshen up and not have them see you before you are ready.

You also want plenty of time for the pictures themselves. Maybe a few moments with your husband after he first sees you.
