Share your proposal story!!

here's mine, reposted from a post I made on 2/18/04 on BHB

Well, Disney World is my favorite place. I had dreamed of going there for as long as I could remember when he took me in Jan 2003 as a Christmas present. In Jan 2004 we went back. We'd already been ring shoppping, so there was some suspicion, but I really wasn't sure if he was going to propose or not. He almost had me convinced that he wasn't!

On the 1st or 2nd day we were there I was making a charm bracelet in the hotel gift shop and I came across a little charm that was a little mickey head engagement ring! I teased him and said 'well, if we were ENGAGED, I could get this.' FH laughed and said 'someday.'

Another day we were at World Showcase and we were at the Germany Pavillion where they have a lot of Snow White stuff (I love Snow White). There were two pins I liked, one was SW with a rose and the other was SW and Prince Charming. he asked which one I wanted, and I said 'surprise me' and went inside to look at hummels. He came into the store and gave me the pin with SW and the rose.

A few nights later, he kept teasing me with 'I have something for you, I have something for you.' and I wasn't sure what, but I hoped.

On Saturday we were on line for the Haunted Mansion set at MGM and waiting quite a while when he truend to me and said, 'Jennifer, I love you. I need you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, so I want you to have this.' and he gives me the pin with SW and Prince Charming. I laughed and told him he was really mean. He thought he was pretty amusing!

Later on that night (our last night there) we headed for the Magic Kingdom to watch Spectromagic (light parade) and Wishes (Fireworks). He was pretty obsessed with getting there, which was odd considering we'd seen them both multiple times. So anyway we got to MK just as the parade was starting and we stood right by the entrance watching the parade. I was trying to get a good spot and trying to take pictures. I got annoyed with FH for tugging at my right wrist (the one with the charm bracelet on it). He stopped.

After the parade was over where we were, we walked up mainstreet toward the castle along with the back of the parade, singing along 'On this magic night a million stars will play beside us...'

We got to the top of Main Street and hunkered down for a 30 minute wait until the fireworks. It was pretty cold (about 40 degrees, I think). He was sayng how happy he was to be there with me, and said that the hearts in the fireworks would be for us tonight. I thought it was cheesy, but sweet. About 10 minutes before the parade FH said we should get someone to take our picture in front of the castle. He kind of took a long time in choosing someone (and spoke to the guy about 2 seconds too long) but finally he took me to a clear spot in front of the castle to take the picture. He said 'I love you', leaned over and kissed me and as I protested 'What are you doing!!? This guy is trying to take a picture!?' He dropped to one knee and said 'Jennifer, WIll you marry me?'

And then we watched the fireworks together! And we have pictures of the proposal!!! (Will try to post as profile pic).

Also, the bit about him grabbing at my bracelet was that he was trying to put on the little engagement ring charm!

SO perfect!!!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

here is my story:

i knew he had the ring, he told me when he picked it up. decided on an 'impulse' to go to jones beach because it was so nice out. so we are walking and i felt the ring box in his pocket, so i asked him where it was. he said ' i don't know.' and we proceed to walk the boardwalk for a bit before turning around to go back, my finger is still naked at this point. so, we sit on a bench facing the water and i didn't notice that he pulled out the ring and was asking me ad trying to get the ring on at the same time. sitting down in front of me. no pictures, no fireworks, just that. and the ring was about 3 sizes too big so we had to go to the jeweler to get it sized. once that was done, i wanted to tell my parents first, but they weren't home, so i called my mom to see where they were, she told me the outback in island park. so we went there to tell them, but they already knew b/c chris had to ask my dad first. but they were both very happy adn we got a free dinner out of it.

what a story!!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

I knew FH had the ring (its an heirloom) and we had talked about getting engaged before Thanksgiving, but I didn't think he would do it on our 2 year anniversary (11/7/04).

He took me to a nice restaurant and he brought two boxes in with him, one was small and the other was big (like shirt box sized). After we ordered our dinner he gave me the small box, and inside were really pretty earrings. He said the big box was for later.

After dinner we walked along the river. We sat down on one of the benches right near the water and he gave me the big box. I opened it and found a smaller box, and then another box. When I got the last box it was the ring box, and he took it from me and then and he got down on one knee and proposed. He said that he had talked to my family and that they said they would be honored if he was a part of our family, and he said he would be honored if I would be his wife. I was crying, and of course said yes.

Re: Share your proposal story!!

we are huge dave matthews band fans so we were in sanfran this sept to see them play at golden gate park. So the day before the show we went to the park to do touristy stuff and went row boating. The minute we got in the boat i was amazed ducks were everywhere and we were alone, it looked just like a scene from the notebook!! Finally almost on the end of out rowboating trip he gets down on one knee and the boat pulls out the ring bok opens it up and says will you marry me!! I didnt answer him for like two minutes because i was crying and laughing. Finally he goes well and i screamed yes!
The next day was the show and it was like our engagement celebration!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

My FH and I had not been out in a long time because of school and work so we decided that the day before christmas eve we would have a big night out. So my FH got center front row tickets to see Beauty and the Beast (my fave Disney movie) and he reserved a table at the Rainbow Room Bar and Grill. I honestly didn't think he was going to propose.

So then it was the day of [12.23.03] and my FH didn't want to take the train into the city. He wanted to take a cab, which I said I didn't want to do but decided to just let it go. So the 'cab' was supposed to pick him up at work and then come pick me up. Well to my surprise this 'cab' was actually a stretch silver 14-16 SUV limo. I open the door and there Mark is standing in a suit looking all hot and a dozen red roses.

After lightly smacking him for spending so much money,I got in the limo and saw a pillowcase that looked like it was wrapped around something. Mark said that that was an early christmas present and i can open it anytime...so i opened it right away...the pillowcase had pictures of us ironed on to it...after trying for a few minutes he helped take the ribbon off the sheet and inside was a plush, teddy bear like mrs potts halloween bag...i opened the bag and there was an ornament in it that said 'Engaged 2003'...so at this point Mark got on his knee (in the limo!!!)... and asked me to marry him....of course i said yes!!....then we went to dinner and the show....iwe even have a picture of us at the Rainow room. It was a fantastic night....the funny thing is that everyone, and i mean everyone knew about it except me....i think this is the first time that my mom kept her mouth shut....

Re: Share your proposal story!!

On may 1st, a beautiful warm sat afternoon! I thought it was going to be just another sat. He got a haricut, i got my nails done. Out of nowhere he asked if i wanted to go to our special spot @ wantagh park, where we used to picknick & hide from everyone. This spot is hidden & is right near the water. We walked & of course i didn't think anything out of the blue that was going to happen. He said 'remember our spot, lets go there'. So being very sarcastic i said what are you gonna propose to me here. And he said well actually then got down on a knee and poped the question. I couldnt cry cuz i was soooooooooooooooooooo happy I screamed to everyone @ wantagh park 'look @ my ring,we are eng!!!!.

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Well mine is actually a very long story...I will give you some background...When we started dating, about 4 months into it, I gave him a ring (Xmas of 01) as my promise to him, so he knew how serious i was....Whenever anyone asked about us getting married, he said not til he was 30 bc he was too young....Anyway, he constantly plays with his ring while he drives & many of times he has fallen between the seat & console...Now onto our night

Saturday April 10th, 2004 he took me to dinner at L'endroit for dinner...We sat there talking about tons of things & i noticed him being very squirmy but just thought he was not feeling well (he has IBS)..After dinner was over, we got the car & started to drive in the opposite direction of the parkway & could not figure what the heck he was doing...He started driving crazy (this is usual) then all of a sudden, he makes a quick right turn into some elementary school parking lot screaming that he dropped his ring & he didn't know where it was..He stops the car, starts looking like crazy, I jump into the backseat looking for it there...All of a sudden, he says 'oh, i got it, you can come out of the backseat now' As I proceeded out of the car, he was down on one knee holding the ring out....I was in such shock (didn't expect it at all)...He started the whole speech of how much i mean to him & then says, 'will you be the one that wakes up with me everyday, for the rest of our lives, Kristen please be my wife!' I starting crying, screaming....Now mind you, we are in a pitch black parking lot, so I could not even see the ring....I jumped in the car & drove all the way home staring at it under the rear-view mirror light...When we got to his house, my entire family & his were there waiting for us!

It truly was the happiest day of my life!
(sorry this was so long)

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Me and FH have been dating for almost six years.

I had been getting so depressed because I was beginning to doubt that he would ever ask. We were hanging around one Sunday in November , went to Sam's, I took a nap, He played PS2 and I had some lesson plans to do so I asked if we could head back to my house. On the way we stopped to get gas. It was really warm out that day and just got dark. He said he was ansy, why dont we take a ride down by the lake. I said ok and we went. We were just sitting in the car and I wanted to get out and walk on the beach. On the beach he tells me he has a confession to make, that he brought me here for a reason. Stupid , idiot me, was like 'huh???? Whats wrong, is something the matter?' And he gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. I was FLOORED. I always thought I would figure out when he had the ring and it turned out he had it for 3 weeks!!! He said he was going to do a whole big production, but it just didnt feel right and he couldnt wait anymore. I think it was just perfect and of course the first thing I asked was who had known before me. He had told his parents and siblings and my DAD. Oh man I was mad haha. Then he drops the ring in the sand and it is pitch black outside. Thankfully we found it and then went in the car so I could see it haha. Of course we then went home and called everyone... soooo fun!!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

My FH just proposed a few weeks ago, so I have been telling this story a lot! We have been dating for 6 years, so we had been talking about marriage a lot...especially once a college friend got married :)

On December 13, we went to see the Christmas show after work. I thought something might be up, because he wouldn't let me stand on his left side as we walked to the train. He also insisted that we see the tree before we ate dinner. When we got to the tree, he asked me to stand in front so someone could take our picture. Like Jennifer, he took a little too long asking the man to take the picture. When he came over, he got down on one knee and said 'I know I made you wait a long time for this, but will you marry me?' He put a gorgeous ring on my finger and I couldn't take my eyes off of it. I don't remember saying yes, but everyone around us started clapping and shouting their congratulations. Several of the men shook FH's hand to congratulate him :) It was a really sweet proposal and I am so glad he picked a special place in the city for it :)

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Repost from BHB board

February 2004: We'd already been living together for 2 years - and engagement had become a running joke between us and all our friends. I kind of lost it around Christmas time because he was buying more toys (quad, jet ski, snow mobile) - and I was still waiting for my ring.

Prep: Feb. 13th is my birthday and the 14th is Valentine's Day...

Somewhere around the beginning of February, he started to disappear at night with one of his best friends - and he'd always go out dressed nicely - not in jeans as uaual. So I knew something was up. Then, around the 8th or 9th of the month, he informed me that he had to loan all of our money to a friend of ours. Regardless of the fact that we hadn't paid our mortgage yet - he actually told me to take a cash advance to cover the mortgage (he doesn't believe in debt - so I was shocked)!

Flash forward to the 12th of February: my birthday is the next day - and he warns me that I'm getting my gifts on Valentine's Day. I totally know what's up at this point - plus the fact that he mistakenly left the jewelers card in his pocket!

Valentine's Day was a Saturday, and we went about our typical routine - breakfast out with friends and some house work. We go to dinner at one of my favorite little restaurants (Cafe Al Dente in Oyster Bay) - and I could see that he was a nervous mess. He was pounding glasses of wine - and shifting all uncomfortable in his chair. By the time we were done with dinner, there was a table of 6 young kids right next to us, so any romantic mood was out the window. I felt so bad for him!!!

Anyway, we're walking to the car, because we decided to go to a bakery for dessert. As we're walking to the car, he tells me that he's had too much to drink, and that I have to drive. He hands me the keys, and stops in his tracks. He says 'I think there's something on the key ring' - and I look down to see my ring - and turn around to find him on one knee in the middle of the road. The rest is history! We spent our time in the bakery calling our family and letting them all in on the news.

I felt so bad for him, because he really wanted it to be romantic - but the opportunity passed too quickly. I wouldn't trade the outcome for anything!!!!

Then we went for dessert where we called anyone and everyone to let them know!!!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

okay i will share....

We have been together now for about 7 1/2 years so i was getting impacient. But nonthe less i knew our time would come and i knew the ring was being purchased soon. we had went shopping a few times he wanted to make sure i did not get dissapointed that was his worst fear.
so it was the night of the fourth of july and we did not make plans with friends because he had to go to the airport and pick up his sister that he has never met before so i thought we would have a quiet night getting to know them. Well he sounded very rushed on the phone and he told me that as soon as he gets back he wants to go and look at the fireworks. so i said oh cool i will bring some champange. we had a bottle sitting around for a while. so he rushed home he briefly introduced his sis to me and then we were off. we got a perfect parking spot in long beach which is odd in itself. Then we popped open the champange and started watching the fireworks. he said 'put down your glass the cops are coming' i was like 'since when do you care about the cops seeing us drink with everyone else on the beach?' little did i know that he was trying to propose. so we are continuing watching the fireworks and then he puts his arms around me and starts whispering into my ear. Now i cannot hear what he is saying because of the fire works. so i look back at him to ask him what he was saying and he was down on one knee and said 'I already feel as if we are married. Will you spend the rest of your life with me????
I swear i feel like it was a blur. i obviously said yes. and i still feel like it was all a dream.
I love him so much. I cannot wait to be husband and wife.
sorry so long guys.

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Our engagement was so romantic because he did a suprise vacation in Disney World Orlando, FL. I didnt even know we were going to get engaged. Anyway one night at the pool at the resort we were staying at, he had me open a present with a CD player inside, I'm like OMG i really wanted a CD Player. So next there is a CD with the CD player I'm like ok this is going to be fun (still oblivious to what was really going on) so i put in the CD and his voice is on it talking about how much he loves me how we met why he wants to be with me forever. I had to hold back the tears. Then after his voice went off Shania Twains song 'Looks like we made it' and it went off. He got down on one knee and ask me to marry him. I was in such shock i cried and cried and cried and he did too, which is something that he never does. I wish i could relive that moment.

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Heres our's...

We were in Disney...we decided to check out this resturant that people in our hotel kept raving about. It was located on the top floor of the hotel.

They have a few tables that overlooked Downtown Disney and the firework displays at Magic Kingdom . While I was in the shower FH called upstairs and told them his plans and requested the best table to see the fireworks...

This restaurant was very chic chic... we weren't use to this kind of service......we ordered a bottle of wine and proceeded to look at the dinner menu…everything on it was practically foreign to us…I’m not a picky eater but FH is a meat and potato kind of guy…vegetables are gross to him and fish is a no no…I knew we were in trouble…

We were having such a hard time deciding … cream of venison soup, caviar EVERYWHERE…there was not a single thing with chicken or pasta The server brought us out a complimentary appetizer sample…raw fish with a cream caviar filling and more caviar eggs on top…oh boy. I did not even attempt to eat it…FH felt that we needed to eat it bc they were complimentary…he proceeded to put this thing in his mouth (which I was shocked to see him do) and started gagging uncontrollably and turning red and trying not to make a scene…

I was laughing so hard but quietly that I was crying…I was in a laughing fit but doing it quietly…if I kept looking at him I would have burst out loud laughing…The fireworks at Magic Kingdom started going off so I turned around to look at them and calm myself down…a few seconds later I felt tapping on my shoulder…I didn’t want to turn around bc I was still trying to calm down…I kept looking at the fireworks proclaiming how nice they were in between laughs…

Finally he said “Bey…!!!” I turned around and he was on his knee…but I wasn’t thinking he was going to propose…I thought that the appetizer was that bad for him that he fell to the floor…I yelled 'What are you doiing?' in a state of paniac he put the ring up closer for me to see and that’s when I noticed that he was proposing…I couldn’t believe it…

Re: Share your proposal story!!

From my wedding site:
Michael asked for her parents permission the Monday before he proposed on Christmas Eve.
Michael invited Melissa's family over to his parents house for Christmas Eve dinner. Melissa had no idea she was getting engaged- she just thought the families were meeting for the first time.

After opening a few gifts and finally relaxing, Melissa sat down on the couch to continue her conversation with a friend. A few seconds later Michael sat down next to her and started telling her (and the rest of the room) how much he loved her.
Within a few seconds he was on his knee with a beautiful Lucida ring.
She said 'Yes' and the whole room was clapping. Melissa says it was the best moment of her life.

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Our story is a bit different...and kind of long!
(FH and I both live in the Boston area).

Tim took the day off of work and took a train from Boston to New York, where he purchased the ring with the help of his friend Paul, who had recommended the diamond dealer. Not thinking the trip would make him any later than usual, he didn't give Deb a warning that he might be late getting home from work. Wanting the proposal to be a surprise to friends and family, he didn’t tell anyone about his plan. This is what followed…

Deb called Tim on his cell phone sometime mid-afternoon but, assuming he was busy at work, didn't think anything of it when he didn't answer his phone. When Tim didn't call her after work, as he normally does, Deb thought he had maybe decided to go mountain biking or had gone home to take a nap. So Deb gave Tim a call and got his voicemail again. She went over to his apartment to see if he was there. Still no Tim. However, Deb knew Tim was expecting the delivery a new mountain bike that day and thought he had maybe gone over to a friends house to assemble it or to take it for a spin. Still, it was unlike Tim not to call her back. So, she called Tim's friend (and next door neighbor and best man) Phil who hadn't heard from Tim all day either. Starting to worry, Deb called Tim’s mountain biking and work buddy Patrick, who casually told her Tim wasn’t at work that day.

This is when Deb really started to worry. Visions of early-morning car accidents, car-jackings and abductions filled the mind of the worried Deborah. But since Deb has a tendency to overreact, she thought she’d call Phil to make sure she wasn’t going overboard on this one. He agreed that something seemed strange and came on over to Tim’s apartment. It was now 8:00 and Tim should have at least called over 3 hours ago. After making several phone calls to the key people in Tim’s life (and also worrying each of them with visions of doom), Deb and Phil decided to call the police and fill out a missing persons report.

Sooo…yes. The police paid Tim’s apartment a visit! Just as Deb, Phil, and a very skeptical police officer were finishing up the report (Deb obviously in tears) around 9:15, Phil looked out the window and reported that Tim was outside. Yes, Tim had finally arrived!

Poor Tim, worried that he was in trouble for not calling, came up the apartment stairwell to a sobbing but totally relieved Deborah. Tim, apologizing profusely and explaining that he had “gone out for drinks with the guys from work” wrapped Deb in a big hug, looked over her shoulder and saw a police officer in his apartment! Seeing that everyone was okay, the police officer and Phil quickly said their goodbyes so as not to get involved in the argument they assumed would follow.

At this point, Deb kind of knew what was up. She knew Tim hadn’t been at work that day and that even if he had he would have called before randomly going out for drinks with his coworkers. However, completely relieved to see her Timothy, Deb was still too emotional to think straight. She was still getting over the fact that he was safe and home! Seeing Deb so upset and knowing he had no believable story to tell her except the truth, Tim got on both knees, explained where he had been all day, dug the ring out of his backpack, and proposed right then and there. Deb of course continued sobbing, but now it was with joy…!

Makes for a much better story than the beautiful, romantic proposal Tim had planned for the next day…We were supposed to go apple picking, and he had been planning on proposing in the orchard. Instead we wound up spending the day on the phone with family and friends sharing the excitement and our unbelievable story!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Tom and I had ben dating over a year, but have been schoolmates for over 3 years! We were looking at rings, and i knew it had to be coming soon!
We took a weekend, at the end of August, to have a nice romantic weekend in the Poconoes. I thought he was going to wait until the end of the month when we were going to Vegas, but i guess he was going nuts!
I walked into house suite that we got for the weekend, the last nite. he asked me to go into one of the rooms, and close the door. Inside was a gift, a rose and a letter. The gift was a Kim Anderson(which i collect-and is the whole theme of my wedding). It was a girl admiring another girls engagement ring. After starting to cry my eyes out, i opened the door, and walked into the door where there was over 5 dozen roses all over the floor, and candles lit. When he got down on one knee! I couldnt even breathe, and just cried my eyes out! and said YES!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Well, to set it up:
He works at a studio and records music and stuff for sesame street.
I was going to pick him up at work because he had too much stuff to bring on the train. He told me to park and come inside because there was someone he wanted me to meet. Now, he's got a lot of famous people coming through there; a lot of movies and stuff are also filmed there.
When I got there, he met me and took me to one of the green rooms (where celebreties get ready and stuff). I looked around the room and didn't see anyone and started to get confused. He said 'I want you to meet Elmo', I said I already met Elmo (I thought he was referring to the guy who does Elmo's voice). He said no, and told me to sit down in a chair. Then I see an Elmo doll all dressed up in a tuxedo. He hands it to me and tells me to press its hand. it says 'Hi Lauren, this is Elmo. Travis has something he wants to ask you. Travis, get on your knee'
He then got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I was in total shock when he showed me the ring. It was so great, and I always have Elmo to remember it by. It turns out that it was made one-of-a-kind by Fisher price just for the proposal! How cool is that. He arranged it all with the real elmo, I couldn't have asked for anything more perfect!!

Sorry so long!!!
