I have read different things. 2-4 weeks tends to be the 'general' rule.

Re: how many weeks before the wedding should you set the rsvp date for?
depends if you are writing the place cards yourself 4 weeks so july 20 BUT if you are having them printed you have to give the printer 4 weeks so I would go with july 14th then. go with 5 weeks, especially for out of towners too.

Re: how many weeks before the wedding should you set the rsvp date for?
I just ordered my invites and i believe we put down july 9 as the RSVP date, my family is not very good at sending things back, so this gives them plenty of time (i believe it's 6 weeks) We are going to mail them June 4. hope this helps, since we are the same day

Re: how many weeks before the wedding should you set the rsvp date for?
I am getting married on May 29 and our RSVP date is April 14th. We are a holiday weekend and I want to make sure people have enough advanced notice. I think its about 6 weeks.

I'm doing 5 weeks since it's a summer wedding - hoping people won't already have plans :)
