Maybe a strange question...
For those of you who had friends/family provide wedding services as their gift to you, how did the subject come up? Did you ask, or did they bring it up? Our best man is a freelance graphic designer, but he doesn't have a lot of money. I think it would be great to have him design the invites that I love, but don't want to spend $$$$ on, as his gift to us, but I don't know how to breach the subject. We've talked casually about him doing the design, but not about the payment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA! :o)

I don't think you can make that decision for him. I think you just need to ask him how much he will charge you and then see if he offers.

Re: Maybe a strange question...
Yup, I agree. Bring it up to him and say that you would be honored if he designed them...then ask how payment would wrk out. This is usually when they say "I'll do it as a gift" or "My service is free, I'll charge for the materials", etc...but he needs to say that.

I think that would be the best way to handle it!

Me too. My cousin is a fabulous photographer and is doing our pics. I just asked her what her rates are and she told me she she wanted to give to us. It's definitely a hard topic to approach but you can't go into assuming that he'll give it as his gift.
