The Time Traveller's Wife

I know this belongs on the book board but there is not that much traffic over there...

I am in the middle of this book and I really like it, but can someone expalin to me whay Henry is never younger than Clare in his time travels? Why doesn't Clare meet Henry when he is say 5, or 12, like he meets her?

So far I like it a lot, but I am also very confused about this:

he makes The List, which is a list of times when he will come to meet Clare

and yet...

he says he doesn't know where he will be going/can't predict it

so how did me make The List?
