Lying on your invite about ceremony starting time, opinions please!
I thought it would be a good idea to make the church 15 minutes earlier than it really is so that people are on time and not coming in at the same time that I am. Did anyone else do this? MOB thinks its rude to keep people waiting at the church for all that time.Opinions please...... I have to give the final say in a few days.

many people do it - it's practically customary. 15 minutes is appropriate, i would say. 30 is pushing it a bit!

I would check with the church first...you don't want people showing up if the church is still setting up. Also, every wedding I ever been to (and I'm sure my own too) the bride is always a few min late so I think you will be fine..

I know I will be in the minority, but I agree with MOB. I do arrive on time (even to my own wedding!!) and it is one of my biggest pet peeves when events start 30 minutes later just because we are waiting for latecomers. I understand why people do it, but I didn't, and I don't think that many people were late. We also had a mass, however, so if they were 10-15 minutes late, they were still there for most of it.

In my culture its understood that people arrive late when you tell them the time of a function which is why I used 30 minutes, otherwise I probably would have went with 15 to be safe.

I have been to a few weddings (friends and family) and people are always walking in late. These same people will also be invited to my wedding which is why I wanted to set the time earlier I just wasnt sure if other people did it too!I think its a good idea and I think Im going to go with the majority on this one, thanks girls

Re: Lying on your invite about ceremony starting time, opinions please!
I'm getting married at the hall, not a church, but we're doing it 30 minutes before. We also are providing our guests with champagne and fresh fruit during that 30 min and they'll be ushered into the ceremony room with about 15 min to go. So, I'd do 15 if you don't plan on having anything there for them.

My ceremony starts at 4pm (officially) but I was thinking about putting 3:45 on the invite. Do you think people will know the time is padded? 3:45 is a weird time for a function to start.

Re: Lying on your invite about ceremony starting time, opinions please!
I put 30 minutes ahead. AND I'm getting married early in the morning. So I already KNOW people will be late. In my case, it's a big precaution.

Ditto! We have something called 'Indian Standard Time' where our clocks are about 15 minutes late :(

It is common practice to have your invites say a half hour before your ceremony starts..In fact if you don't do it- people will most definitely be late.

Re: Lying on your invite about ceremony starting time, opinions please!
I'm with Dpli. About 90% of your guest will arrive on time, why should they be punished for the 10% that can't respect your wedding. Even if you give extra time, their are those who will still be late for that time also. The most important people will be there, and on time, that is all that should matter. IMO it is very rude to have guests or anyone for that matter, waiting unnecessarily.
