Spinoff on Ipods
Questions:
1) How much do they generally run 2) What is the difference between a regular and a mini 3)Do you have to join itunes? What if you already have mp3's on your computer. Can you save them to the ipod, or do you need to download them from itunes? 4) is there some kind of software you install in order to transfer songs from computer to ipod? 5) does it come with the wire connection? is it the UCB cable?
TIA

Re: Spinoff on Ipods
specs
the mini is 4 GB & the regular comes in 20 or 40 GB the mini comes in different colors, the other is white.
It comes with the cable. ( and headphones & a charger) I believe they reccomend a USB2 port, but we use a regular USB port & it is fine.
iTunes software comes with it (on CD)
You need it to get the songs onto you Ipod, but you can upload songs from your CDs, you dont' have to buy them fromiTunes. I beleive you can use other Mp3 files, but I am not sure how it works, I haven't done that yet.
ETA- the mini is about $250, 20 GB, $300 & 40 GB $400

You only have to pay per song. ( i think it is $1 a song) You don't have to subscribe. I haven't downloaded any songs yet & haven't paid anything.

Re: Spinoff on Ipods
Questions:
1) How much do they generally run
mini- $249 20gb- $299 40gb- $399
2) What is the difference between a regular and a mini
amount of music it can hold and size/weight
3)Do you have to join itunes? What if you already have mp3's on your computer. Can you save them to the ipod, or do you need to download them from itunes?
no you can also use musicmatch. but i think you need one of the two. itunes is a great way to organize your music, to make custom playlists, and of course to buy stuff. if you already have mp3s i believe all you have to do it transfer them into the itunes folder and you're good to go.
4) is there some kind of software you install in order to transfer songs from computer to ipod?
that's what itunes is for.
5) does it come with the wire connection? is it the UCB cable?
it comes with usb and firewire.

Re: Spinoff on Ipods
thanks -- very helpful
i have music match on my compuer and use morpheus to download songs
i know it's not exactly legal, but i only use the songs for my own enjoyment and i don't burn and sell cd's
so i don't want to buy something where i have to pay to download songs

Re: Spinoff on Ipods
I have a Dell Pocket DJ - it was $199 and compared to my sister's ipod, I like it a lot better, but my sister would probably say she loves her ipod more.
I just think the Pocket DJ is more user-friendly and synchs right up with music match (which I prefer over itunes).
It's like the great Mac vs. PC debate though - everyone has their side.

Re: Spinoff on Ipods
I love my iPod. You cna sue ANY MP3's you have, and it's REALLY easy to put your CD's on your iPod. using a USB cab;r or firewire port/dock. I LOVE it. iTunes is so easy. it looks for all of you mp3's and then you can manage playlists and what goes on the iPod SO easily. LOVE the iPod.

Re: Spinoff on Ipods
depending on your use Don..u may want to consider the ipod shuffle...
here
depending on the size, its either 99 or 150 and its about the size of a peice of gum
much smaller and easy to tote around. only thing is it doesnt have a screen. (then again on my mp3 player, i only put songs i want on it) so i know whats on it
i want to the apple store the other day to see it in person and i'm amazed.
dell dj is a wanna be ipod. dell notice apple was making a killing with it. u can use pretty much any software with any mp3 player these days. don't worry about the matching thing

Re: Spinoff on Ipods
1) range depended on unit. 2) memory.. how much do you REALLY NEED? 3) Don't have to joing Itunes.. I errr acquired plenty of tunes off my own CD's etc. You can actually use the ipod as a backup (i do). All of my songs are saved on it as a hard drive. But I also have 300 songs on my 'play list' which I listen to. 4) This i don't know. Jim used it.. it's pretty much drag and drop. 5) has a cable.. USB? flat slide thingy.. sorry bad with terms.

Re: Spinoff on Ipods
Before buying one, think about how much space you want and how many songs you want to put on it. I had my heart set on a mini (for the colors of course), but then I realized that I would fill it up with only half of our albums, I went for the 20G iPod. I have about half of the capacity filled.
