Well since FH is so involved in the Fire Dept we're specifically looking for a house in St. James.

We bought a home in Amityville 2 years ago, we love it here. We are south of Montauk Highway, and I think our house is the only house under a half a mil around here LOL

I recommend this neighborhood highly. I live around the corner from the Amityville Horror house.

I love Holbrook and Holtsville! It was too far for us, though. I also like Manorville but that's REALLY too far!

We just a bought a house in East Northport. Hopefully to close next month.

I teach in one of those districts, not the best of the bunch. Keep in mind the tax rate in some of those districts. For example, the taxes on the exact same house are lower in Glen Head and Massapequa for sure because of the commercial real estate in the area.

Those school districts vary WIDELY. Being a hs teacher for 11 years I know a lot about them. when you buy a house these days you really are buying the school district. A lot of people like to think that Seaford and Wantagh are the same... they absolutely are not. FM me for more info. I know first hand but don't want to get flamed or offend anyone.

Also there is a difference in the people. I've lived and worked in a few of those places and I can tell you that some communities are 'friendlier' than others. Others can be VERY money conscious. You can tell by the conversations in the supermarkets. I lived in two of those communities and the people were very materialistic. I know live in Northport (not a cheap area and still very affluent houses) but I find the people a lot friendlier and less materialistic (even though some of them have more money). Also, the district in where I teach is changing. It's getting worse! There will always be good kids and bad kids in every district and town but overall the quality of the community is going downhill. It has nothing to do with income level, single parents or anything like that. It has to do with the parents and what they consider acceptable. Most of my AP students' parents already have their houses up for sale if they are the youngest child and graduating this year. It's sad but many of the nice, healthy, honest families are moving out and are being replaced by a lot of troubled kids whose families tend to look the other way or the parents are in trouble themselves.

Sorry so long but I know about many of these communities through the schools. I also have close friends and co-workers that live in several of them. There are a lot of reasons why they picked one over the other. You also get more for your money in some over others... ie. school district.

FM me if you need any more info.

We are in East Northport but Northport school district. We'll need a bigger house (very small) when we have our second child. I may have to sell a kidney but we are staying in Northport school district.
