Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

Based on my own experience, I told them the real date - I wish I had lied by 2 weeks, JMO.

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

Since my wedding was planned in under 6 months, I told them the real time and I got it 1 week earlier then the original rush date. But I don't think that's the norm.

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

I actually don't think it's a good idea to lie. The rason being, you want to have your last fitting as close to your wedding as possible- most people will drop weight right before their wedding because of stress. If you tell them your wedding is a month earlier than it actually is, then your dress may be too big on you for the wedding.

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

My sister GAINED weight. They tore up the dress on the seam on the side like a broken zipper on a jacket in order to let it out and the look of horror on my mother's face was one not to be forgotten. One month is too much time to lie by, but one or two weeks should be fine. You'd have to lose at least 5-10 pounds for the dress to look that dramatically different on you.

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

woops.....I told them my real date. I am using a shop that has gotten raves, and the dress is coming in two months in advance, so I'm not too worried.

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

I was MORE stressed by the fact that they couldn't seem to get the strap correctly altered (and still didn't before the wedding) and I had to pick up my dress 2 days before the wedding when I had a lot of other stuff to do. I guess maybe lying by one week would be enough

I ordered mine like 10 months before the wedding so I told the real date.

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

I told them my real date but I saw my order form which told the designer that my wedding date was October 1st. So I guess they lie for you.

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

The saleswoman where I got my dress (Kleinfeld) actually said she'd change the date by a month, but that was because they order it so it will specifically come about 2 months before the wedding.

I agree -- I lied too! I think I told 3-4 weeks before the actual wedding.

But just REMEMBER the date you give -

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

I told my place the real date...only because they will hold the dress until the day prior to the wedding. You must pick it up the day before the date you gave them.

But I expressed my concern...and the woman who places the orders told the designers that I was getting married a month prior to my real date...to ensure that they will be delivered to the bridal shop early.

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

I say lie by about 2 weeks. Yes you want make your last fitting as close to the wedding as possible but when the time comes then you can come clean. That's what I did and I had no shame. And they weren't surprised. I'm sure they deal with this all the time. Just remember who you told what date to because I confused myself a couple of times!!!

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

i told them the date was a month prior, when the girl at the store helping me told me to, when the dress came in i told them the real date and they said no problem, so i can leave the dress until my actual wedding day.

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

I told them my real wedding date, but I explained to them that I really wanted to see the gown in the store before I started studying for the bar exam (end of May). I didn't want to have nightmares about the wrong dress or the wrong color showing up when I should be focused on more important things. They put my real wedding date on the contract, but added a clause that the dress was to arrive in the store by May 1, 2005. The dress has been in since mid-March, and I'm even going for my first fitting before I begin to study. I'll go back for the rest during the month prior to the wedding.

I think it really depends on what wedding salon you're dealing with. I was at Kleinfelds and they were really understanding with my situation. Some other salons however (not naming names) I would have definately given them a date that was 2 weeks early.

Re: When ordering your wedding dress...do you tell the REAL DATE??

I lied by three weeks, though I slipped when I was setting up my fittings and told them the real date at that time. I don't think they cared really--it seems to be a common practice.
