Those of you looking to buy houses be careful of Foxtons (M)

Many times their appraisals are shotty and they aren't very helpful when it comes to closings etc.....We lost a bundle of cash because of a commitement aggreement issue.

Re: Those of you looking to buy houses be careful of Foxtons (M)

I AGREE 100 percent...........

We also had a terrible experience trying to buy a home that was listed with Foxtons. They gave the sellers terrible advice on every issue. Sellers had our deposit money in escrow for over a month and kept stalling us. As it turns out, the people had another offer for more $$, Foxtons knew that and let them accept offers from both us and the other buyer. They tried to keep us on the hook in case the other buyer fell through. We had no idea this was happening until the very end when the deal fell through. We only found all of this out at the end when someone from Foxtons fessed up to our attorney.

Also, Foxtons tried to get us to hire their recommended attorney, who kept calling us to try to get our business. We had an attorney the whole time and we were clear that we were NEVER interested in one from Foxtons. I am an attorney and a colleague of mine who does real estate was handling our closing. The Foxtons attorney was violating ethical rules in continuing to call us!

BTW--We closed yesterday on a different house and all went well!!

Re: Those of you looking to buy houses be careful of Foxtons (M)

I guess we were lucky but we had no problems when we bought our house in Queens last year. We used our own lawyer and our closing was less than three hours. Absolutely no problems. I think the trick is to get a lawyer who has dealt with Foxton's before and just keep on top of them (I called Foxton's like every other day just to make sure everything was O.K.)

That's too bad about Foxtons- I like their website.
