Thinking of having something different at the reception
I know people have singers (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin etc...) But I have been thinking I want something different but the problem is I don't know what. Has anyone been to a wedding where they may have had an usual something that you will always remember??? If not any suggestions??? Thanks

I went to a wedding where they had adoo-wop trio. I'm not sure if that's the correct word, but everyone loved it!

Re: Thinking of having something different at the reception
i had an idea (if i were to do it again) of doing what celebrities do.. doing your ceremony, etc..then have a sit down dinner in a room.......
then move to a different room for the party
ceremony ideas.......
i seen this on Oprah. each partner goes to the other parents and gives a special vow to them saying i promise to take care of you daughter and keep her safe, etc.... that was very sweet

There is an entertainment group in Syosset called Chez Zam--they have all different kinds of acts...comedy, 'cirque de soile' kind of stuff, ballroom dancers...I might have their contact info if you are interested.

Re: Thinking of having something different at the reception
I saw a wedding video once where a friend of the family was an elvis impersonator and did an elvis show for about 45 minutes....not good either.I also have been to a beautiful wedding at Villa Lombardis a few yeara ago where during the dinner the family of the bride hired a Belly Dancer who performed while we ate!
Certainly interesting!

My mom went to a wedding where they had a DJ company that provided entertainment during dinner. They did a performance from Phantom of the Opera. I thought it sounded really cheesy, but my Mom couldn't stop talking about it for months after. She loved it!

A friend of mine had a magician at her reception. We all thought it was a little odd. I wouldn't suggest it
I love the idea of a steel drum band or bagpipers.

Re: Thinking of having something different at the reception
don't know if this is along the lines of something you're looking for but we're going to try and gather photos of us with each guest (anywhere from childhood to now) and create a video compilation of the photos set to music and show it during the dinner. it'll be our way of saying 'we've shared so many moments with all of you, thank you for sharing this day with us...'

Re: Thinking of having something different at the reception
Can you be a little more specific as to what you mean by different?JMO: don't try to do too much, it'll take away from the reason everyone is gathered for your special day....it's a wedding, not an event where you feel the need to entertain everyone during every single second of the day. That's what the music is for.

I said the same thing. I have to say though that my Dad hiring the Cher impersonator was wonderful. She gave for 1/2 hour during the serving of courses. She even had some my guests participant while she sang.
Ask Jen_n_Dale how much fun she was. Her & DH loved her too.

Re: Thinking of having something different at the reception
My freind is a singer and she is into dance music so she is gonna sing one or tow of her songs and it won't cut into any dancing time since she sings dance music.

FH and I are thinking of doing this too! We're also thinking of having an 'In Memorium' section, for our close relatives who have died, during which we're thinking of playing Celine Dion's, 'My Heart Will Go On.'
