Ex-Smokers---When does the edgyness/moodiness END?

FH quit smoking about a month and a half ago, and I must say........its been at times difficult to deal with.

He is soo moody, about everything.......and he was never like this before he stopped smoking.

Is this normal? I gotta say.....it sux and its very hard to deal w/. He realizes he is like this and is frustrated and doesnt know how to fix it?

Any suggestions???????? I'm afraid he may go back.....but Even he knows thats not the answer.

Re: Ex-Smokers---When does the edgyness/moodiness END?

I quit about a year and a half ago... I used the patch, since I was still getting nicotine into my system I wasn't so edgy.

It shouldn't be longer than a month or two though.

I am on day 50 of my quit so I cant answer your question, but I would love to know when my moodiness is going to go away.
I know its hard, but stay supportive! We quitters need all the help we can get.

Re: Ex-Smokers---When does the edgyness/moodiness END?

When I tried to quit, ( i failed miserably) I was told that it takes a month for the nicotine to come out of your body but 3 months for you to get over teh mental aspect of it, meaning thinking you want one but your body realyl doesn't. Does that make sence? The word I am thinking of escapes me right now. But congrats for fH quitting!

Re: Ex-Smokers---When does the edgyness/moodiness END?

Thanks.....OK, so at least I know its normal.

Theres just so much going on w/him right now, and I feel so bad 4 him, cuz this has just been a bad few weeks for him. Its like one bad thing after another and I think hes just sick of it.........so thats where his Snottiness comes in. Im so not used to this.

Im hoping for something positive to come his way soon....I just hope he doesnt have a nervous breakdown

Of course FH is still a smoker who's not ready to quit yet so I get no sympathy.

Re: Ex-Smokers---When does the edgyness/moodiness END?

I have to say I still get moody, but I guess thats my nature!? I quit in October and I guess the edginess subsided probably about February. Its definetly worth it though - It was one of the hardest things I ever had to go through, makes me wonder why I started in the first place!

Re: Ex-Smokers---When does the edgyness/moodiness END?

The moodiness eventually goes away. It did for me I am two and a half months smoke free. And the craving went away also. And of course FH is still a smoker who just refuses to stop.

To stop smoking is a very tough thing to do - so congrats to all that have stopped ( I smoked for 20 years)!! And heaven knows it's tough.

Re: Ex-Smokers---When does the edgyness/moodiness END?

I would say the moodiness gets significantly better after the 3 month mark. By that point you almost forget you ever smoked. But it doesn't take a month to get the nicotine out of your system, it only takes 72 hrs. And after that you are in withdrawal for quite a while. It's good though that he realizes his moodines. And it's wonderful that he's quitting - that is so much more important. What may help is working out or some other type of endorphin producing physical activity (such as playing a sport0. It will improve his mood on the whole and help him deal with the stress of quitting much better. Good luck & congrats to him!!!
