Teen Learning To Park Car Kills Mom

(1010 WINS) (MARLBORO, N.J.) A 16-year-old girl practicing how to parallel park backed the car into her mother, killing the woman, authorities said.
Ryta Z. Deriso, 44, of Marlboro, was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon a short time after the accident was reported to police, said Robert A. Honecker Jr., first assistant Monmouth County prosecutor. The girl's name was not released because she is a juvenile.
Prosecutors decided not to file charges in the case, Honecker said Friday.
"This is going down as a tragic accident," he said.
The teenager, who had a valid learner's permit, was practicing parking as her mother watched. The two had set up cones on the quiet street, several doors down from where they lived, Honecker said.
Several neighbors told investigators the girl was backing up when she pressed down on the accelerator, and the car jumped onto the curb and struck the woman, Honecker said.

That IS horrible. When I was learning to drive I crashed our car with my mom in it. It flipped over and was totaled. My mother and I walked away unhurt because of seatbelts, but to this day whenever I have to drive my mother anywhere (which still makes me anxious) I always remember how awful it could have been and feel grateful for surviving it.

oh no. I'm from NJ...originally from the town near Marlboro. The bride and groom from the wedding I went to last weekend are from Marlboro...I hope it wasn't anyone they knew...
Marlboro is a very small town...
