NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
Accessories can add up to be quite a bit of an expense. In your opinion, what are some things that we shouldnt spend so much $$$ on because no one really notices?Unity Candle?
Ring Pillow?
ETP - Modified the question a bit

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
I would say most of the stuff is unnecessary if you are really looking to cut costs. Unless you think there is a lot of sentimental value to it, you probably don't need it. Some of the ceremony stuff, like the Unity candle, you could just use a simple candle - it is more about the symbolic guesture than what candle you are actually using, isn't it?Most of the stuff for the reception I find unnecessary - toasting flutes, cake server, guest book, even the cake topper. I think flowers on the cake make more of an impression on people than the toppers do. We did have a cake server, but just because I wanted to use the same one on my anniversaries. We got an inexpensive one.

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
I have never seen a unity candle that lit well--it always seems very hard to light, and they either blow out or can't be lit at all! So I would definitely skip that and the ring pillow (unless you have a ring bearer I guess? we did not). I would skip cake server (no one noticed at all) and flutes (we used bride and groom ones, but they weren't very $$$$).

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
I didn't want to spend a fortune on accessories either. I don't have a ring bearer and we aren't doing the unity candle. But I bought pretty toasting flutes for $1.99 each at Big Lots (which I will decorate) and I got my cake knife and server in the discount bin at the Mikasa outlet in Riverhead for about $12.

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
You could skip the ring pillow. The church can give you a candle for the ceremony....the hall will give you toasting flutes and a cake/knife server...you can even get a cake topper from them if you want!

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
We did not use a cake topper, instead our florist made a beautiful mini bo-k on top. the knife & server I think I would have done without. The toasting flutes we pricey, so I make DH toast with them for every anniversary. Also my bridal purse was kind of a waste

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
I didn't have a cake topper. I agree with the other ladies that flowers look prettier. Or a big bow made of wire edged ribbon.Even though I received a cake knife and server, I don't think it was necessary. I could have used what the hall provided.

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
I think the candle you could skip on. Though there are good deals on ebay. I bought my ring pillow (early I know) for $10.00. So that way you could get things you want for less.

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
I'm borrowing the unity candle stand from my sister - who had a nice silver one with a claddagh on it. I'll add a plain white pillar candle. . . When I asked her if I could borrow it she said that she was happy that it was getting use and it wasnt something she'd tell people to spend much money on.using fresh flowers or sugared fruit on top of cake, using the hall's cake server and knife - and most likely will use whatever toasting flutes are at the reception hall.

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
I'd skip everything mentioned above, like the ladies say.We didn't do the candle anyway, we did wine instead.
No ring bearer so no pillow.
And the flutes and server and all that are provided by the hall.
Our cake was topped with flowers.
Good luck!

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
ring pillowflower girl basket or boo-k (ours carried a basket that we sprapainted white and put fake petals in and then she ended up carrying an extra boo-k)
unity candle holder, no one really sees it
place card holders, I used the ones from the hall and no one seemed to care how fancy they were or weren't
favors-I didn't do them at all
cake server-didn't get one at all
toasting flutes-didn't buy special ones, we were going to use a pair from the crystal we registered for and FORGOT THEM AT HOME!!! We used the hall flutes and the pics of our toast came out fine
didn't buy parent gifts

I'm skipping the toasting flutes, cake topper, or cake knife/server - we're just using what the hall gives us. I am having cake petals which the florist is throwing in.

We didn't buy each other a gift--what better gift than vows and eternal love?Don't go nuts on your SHOES! Mine were $49, turned black, and no one--including me--ever saw my feet!

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
I'm not a newlywed, but I'm close! I'm skipping the toasting flutes, the cake server, table numbers, and the cake topper. The hall will provide the first three, and we're using flowers on top of our cake. We also don't have a ring bearer or a flower girl.

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
Guestbook... Unless you have someone running around telling people to sign it, hardly anyone does. I didnt do toasting flutes but I did do the cake set which was about $20.00 engraved. I'm actually glad I did that because we got a picture of the cake cutting and you can read the engraving on the knife...it made for a great picture. Also, don't spend a lot of your veil. You can get really nice one very inexpensive off ebay.

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
I agree with what the girls wrote above, if you really want a cake server or toasting flutes, register for them so you don't have to spend the money.also, I got my veil at Barron's for $80. The one I originally wanted in the bridal shop was $200.
I wouldn't spend a lot on a bridal purse either.

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
i put my cake server set and toasting flutes on my registry, hopefully someone will buy. I am using rose petals for my cake. You can find a ring bearer pillow for a reasonable price on E-bay. As already metioned you can get your own unity candle somwhere cheaper rather than buying one specifically made for a wedding.
