FYI- its not a children's book, but have you ever read The True Story of Hansel and Gretel?

Re: So I am looking for books on the holocaust for children...

I read it a few months ago, its not a hard read at all, if the kids are at a higher reading level. Im not a teacher, so I have no idea how to judge stuff like that....but its very good in my humble opinion

Re: So I am looking for books on the holocaust for children...

I don't know the age you are looking for but when I was pretty young i read 'Diary of Anne Frank'. I really liked her book as a child even though it opened my eyes a lot wider to the world.

Re: So I am looking for books on the holocaust for children...

I havd another book (it's packed away, so I can;t look up the exact title) but it's a number of diaries and stories of children of the holocaust. It's a good jumping off point if they're also readint eh diary of anne frnak because it gives many different perspectives.

Also the national holocause musem in washington DC has that exhibit 'daniel's sotry' which is a kid's eye view, I think they have books about that and/or telling that story. HTH

Not sure if it's too hard a read or not, but Night by Elie Wiesel was an amazing book. It was pretty sad though.

Chicken Sunday by Patricia Polacco -- it isn't about the Holocaust, but the shopowner in the book has numbers tattoed on his arm. I read it to my students after reading Number the Stars and the Life of Anne Frank: A Picture Book to see if they would notice.

i love this book! Thank you all of you for your help! thank you!!!! but what got me perplexed was that i googled holocaust literature for children and got all these links and when i would click on them, they weren't working. i've had one or two not work but to have like 15 links in a row not work just got me annoyed. like, is someone taking down these sites b/c of censorship? you know, my mind starts jumping to conclsuions.

Re: So I am looking for books on the holocaust for children...

I highly recommend 'Journey to America', my mom read it to me when I was a young girl but I still remember it. It tells the story of a young girl and how her and her mother & sisters escaped from germany to switzerland while the father goes to america to make enough money to send for them.
