Marriage License Question
I just had a crazy thought. FI was born in another country...came here when he was a few months old....became a citizen sometime in high school. He has no American Birth Certificate...what happens when we go for the license... What sort of papers do they expect for foreign born U.S. citizens getting married to have when they go for the license. hmmmm

Re: Marriage License Question
He just called up Town of Oyster Bay and they told him that the birth certificate would need to be translated (from Farsi to English) and that we should get it from the Town of Hempstead beause they are way less strict. Anyone else get theirs from Town of Hempstead?

Re: Marriage License Question
I called the Town of Islip and she said as long as they can read it - ie in English or have a translater - then it's ok to have your original birth certificate. But if he has naturalization papers, bring them too!

Re: Marriage License Question
It never occured to me that it may be a problem!
I'm glad you brought it up too - cause I wouldn't want to be caught off-guard at Town Hall
Thanks!

Re: Marriage License Question
In New York City, you just need your drivers license. Maybe it would be worth it to take a trek into the city to avoid the hassle of getting a certificate printed.

Re: Marriage License Question
I have my original birth certificate from Spain, so I don't have to worry about having it printed - and I hate going into NYC

Re: Marriage License Question
Having people have to translate it from Spanish is one thing.....having people to translate it from Farsi (persian) is a whole other.
