What is the 'expected/normal' gift for guests to give?
I've always thought: for a couple, $225-250for an individual $100 - 125
is that about right??

That is about what we give, unless the bride & groom are close friends than we give more.

Re: What is the 'expected/normal' gift for guests to give?
You really have to take into account where they are from as well. I just got pillow shams that I registered for from a good friend of mine who is flying in from CA for my wedding as the shower and wedding present. I know they are really tight on money and the plane tickets and hotel are expensive. I would rather have them there than a nice gift.

Re: What is the 'expected/normal' gift for guests to give?
our average was about $100-150 per couple.. which did really surprise me.. especially from the 'wealthier' people.my advice would be to expect very little and then you'll always be pleasantly surprised

Re: What is the 'expected/normal' gift for guests to give?
I give at least $200, though I havent been to a NY wedding in a while. I asked my sister this question a while ago and she said she gives $50 for herself.I didnt even want to argue with her so I kept my mouth shut. Some people just dont know what a wedding costs these days.

Re: What is the 'expected/normal' gift for guests to give?
Minimum of $200 for the two of us. My sister who lives in Maryland gives much less even when she goes to a ny wedding, she can't believe the amount of money I spend on gifts...it's just different around here....I do not expect crazy gifts for my wedding..whatever people want to give is fine with me...Everyone invited was invited because I want them there.A couple of years ago fh and I were sitting with friends while they were opening up their wedding gifts (VERY good friends) and fh's parents were invited and they came to their check of $100! Fh and I were very embarassed! I just don't think that they knew how much weddings cost....

Re: What is the 'expected/normal' gift for guests to give?
I agree that the 'standard' is about $100 per person, but it can go up from there depending on how close you are with the people. Also, if you've spent money on flights, hotels, etc...and you're young and broke haha, i think it's ok to get a bit less. i won't expect much from my friends coming from out of town for this reason.

Re: What is the 'expected/normal' gift for guests to give?
As a couple, we would never give less than $225. But keep in mind, most people aren't even that generous

I think this is more the norm. Most couples gave us $200 and individuals $100.

We have always given 300 for both of us. My best friends I give 500. Am I crazy? These weddings definitely cost over 100 per plate

Re: What is the 'expected/normal' gift for guests to give?
We would give $300 in most cases. There have been exceptions both ways, but I feel the couple should have something extra out of the gift and $200 only just covers our plate.Welcome New Vendors
