Review of my Honeymoon: Sandals Royal Bahamian
DH and I were not able to take our honeymoon right after the wedding which at the time I was SO upset about but it was so worth the wait! It gave us something to look forward to and we were able to splurge a bit more than we would have been able to had we gone right after the wedding.
Anyway, we stayed at the Sandals Royal Bahmian in the Bahamas for 7 nights, we just got back Monday night. We splurged for the Royal Honeymoon Villa with 24-hour butler service and Rolls Royce transfers. Let me say this, nights 1 - 5 were off the charts, the resort completely exceeded our expectations. We were treated like royalty from the moment our driver met us at the airport and brought us to the resort where our butler was waiting for us with champagne and cool towels. We were escorted to our villa where a fresh fruit platter and flowers were waiting for us. Our suite was spacious and comfortable, our terrace with garden view was lovely. We could not wait to see the rest of the place. We found the resort grounds to be pristine, the pools were very clean and every single staff member was friendly and courteous. I've never been called Mam and Madam so much in my life and I was called Mrs. D**** more in 8 days than in the last 7 months of marriage
We found the majority of the restaurants to be high-quality, definitely a cut above some of the other all-inclusives we have been to. I loved that there are 3 gourmet, white-glove restaurants as well as your typical all-inclusive buffet. We had the pleasure to be amongst the first to eat at a brand new restaurant which was at the end of a pier, appropriately called The Pier Grille, which is only open to butler guests. Very romantic, especially at sunset! There was also a Hibachi style restaurant and a pub style place. Our butler made dinner reservations for us before we arrived which was very helpful.
The beach was small but nice and they kept it pretty clean. The off-shore island, Sandals Cay was nothing to write home about, we stayed for about an hour. We went snorkeling which was great and we had a couples massage at the spa which was heavenly!
Let me now get to nights 6 and 7. A storm came in on night 6 and we lost power at about 10pm (AC and all). It came back on around 12am, long enough for me to spot a beetle the size of a small child on our wall! Getting that thing out of the room was a disaster. We lost power again until about 3:30am. The villas were the only part of the resort NOT on back-up generator. To boot our bathroom cieling sprung a leak. We were angry that no hotel rep was sent to the villas to check on us, it's not like we had candles or flashlights. DH flipped open his cell phone to find his way out and was able to flag down a maintenance guy in the distance for an update. Day number 7 there was NO phone service out of the resort because of the storm. Night number 7, our last and final night, it rained again and we prayed we wouldn't loose power, we didn't. We figured we enjoy our last night in our jacuzzi tub, I get it all filled, bubbles and all flip on the jets and NOTHING! The tub was a little small for two people anyway
I would defintely return to a Sandals, we just left a little disappointed with our experience of the last 2 nights. I cannot speak of the Windsor or Manor buildings as we did not stay there but they definitely have back-up generators! All in all it was fabulous trip, long over-due and much needed!!
