Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

FIL's have contributed a very small amount to the wedding but not specifically to the reception. <> They have not been involved at all with any of the planning.

Is it bad if I leave them off of the invitation? I am not sure what to do! I think I am going to be a little tight on space on the invite... What are you girls doing? Especially those whose FH's family has contributed little or none?

Thanks!!!

Edited to clarify!

Re: Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

So far the FIL's have paid nothing, but they said they probably would in the future. And since they gave his brother money for the wedding, I am hoping they will give the same amount. I put them on the invitation...I thought it sounded better and that way thier family knew whose wedding they were invited to!

Re: Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

My FIL's have contributed nothing to my wedding, but it meant a lot to them to have their names on the invitations, so out of respect I put it on. I just wrote FH's name then the son of and their name. It didn't matter to me and rather than have it turn into a big argument I just put their names on the invitation.

Even though his father's motto with this wedding is 'contribute as little as possible' I'll probably still put them on.

Re: Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

my mom bought my dress and helped me make the invites.
other than that we did it ALLLLL!

but we put:

Mr & Mrs J Doe
and
Mr & Mrs J Smith

request the honour of your presence..blah blah

FSIL said she put her and her hubby first then the parents so people knew they paid (even though her parents paid 1/2)

but im a traditionalist and i dont care who thinks who is paying....i just want everyone to come and have fun!!!...... but wanted our parents names on there.

Re: Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

Hi- please take it from someone who has gone through so many fights while planning thi wedding. FIL's and I are at odds b/c they have zero excitement towards this wedding and have contributed zero monatarily. Sooo, iy meant A LOT to my FH to have his parents names on the invitation, so I also put son of......just do it....he,he!!

Re: Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

We put their names on it. My parents paid for the reception but my DH's parents helped out so much. I wanted to and it made them very happy!

Re: Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

My in laws only offered to pay for the RD so we only included their names for the 'son of John and Jane XX'. Since the invite was worded 'My Mom and Dad request the honour of your presence' it was obvious that THEY were the hosts.

Re: Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

We didn't put my FIL's on the invites. Both of my parents are re-married and FH's parents are divorced as well so there were going to be NINE names on the invite if we included them. FH completely agreed that since my parents were 'hosting' the reception and since there would have been so many names that it was fine just to have my parents on there.

He ran it by his family first though so there would be no conflict about it now. I would definitely suggest doing that before you make a final decision.

Re: Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

I had to leave them off b/c there was no room on the invitation, it was getting too wordy and also since it was calligraphy the font took up a lot of space. Its a nice thing to do though!

Mr & Mrs My Mom and Dad request the pleasure..blah, blah blah

Heather
to
Anthony Robert

Re: Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

I didn't want to leave anyone out - just in case someone would get upset. This is what we had on ours:

Mr & Mrs Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxx
invite you to join them
in celebrating the marriage
of their daughter
Marcie Ann
to
James Edward
son of
Mr & Mrs Xxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx
on Friday, the twenty-second of October
two thousand and four
at three-thirty in the afternoon
Saint Lawrence the Martyr
240 West Main Street
Sayville, New York

Re: Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

here is an example of what I meant by the 'font' making the invitation busy

Plus each invite was written with the guest's name so I didnt want a ton of names all over it

Re: Putting Future I.L.'s Names on the Invites?

Wow I'm beginning to feel bad. We just put my parents because I thought it was tradition..and I'm not close with FILs.....and they havent contributed...and most of all I liked it that way...Now I feel bad (especially since it did end up causing drama). If I had to do it again I may have put both
