Thatched Cottage?

Has anyone gotten married, or attended a wedding, at Thatched Cottage? I'm considering booking there and i'm hearing mixed messages. I would appreciate knowing anything you ladies have heard or experienced there... Thanx

Re: Thatched Cottage?

My soon-to-be sister-in-law and brother-in-law got married there last September. It was a beautiful wedding. Just a few things to keep in mind...the room was a little tight with 124 people. The food and service was very good.

Although we didn't experience this in September, the only negatives I have heard are at certain times of the year...in July and August for example or if it rains that there is a terrible smell from the water.

I thought it was a beautiful wedding. You can also check on the official Anyone been to a wedding at thread.

Re: Thatched Cottage?

Fh is DJing a party there tomorrow night. I'll let you know how the food is and I'll tell him to check out details. He's good at that lately since we started planning.

Re: Thatched Cottage?

My sister's wedding was there in Aug 2001. Everything was really nice, except for the room was very crowded and it rained and so we had to take pics inside which was okay, but not as nice as thier outside gardens. However, everything else was really great. I'd recommend going there and checking it out!

Re: Thatched Cottage?

never heard about the smell.

I did attend a wedding there and I thought it was great! Service and food was good. I really liked the setup of everything also. I love the lake and the CH outside.

Good Luck.

We attended a wedding there last year. The place is beautiful and the cocktail hour outside was so pretty (very chilly outside at certain times of the year) The food was okay. We had a great time.

Re: Thatched Cottage?

I went to a wedding last June (2004) and it was amazing! The service was outstanding. The view was beauitful. My only real complaint was the bird droppings outside where we went to take pics (gazebo area). I was not thrilled about that and thought they should have cleaned it up a bit more. But everything else was truly amazing!

Re: Thatched Cottage?

we got married there is august. other tc brides are feliciada, robandnette, and lorsin and teach2be. anyway, the place was beautiful, the food was delicious, the service was fantastic. we got married there b/c of the water and we met in centerport. also a good friend of my il's had a wedding there and nothing but rave reviews. everyone still tells us how wonderful it was. the day we had was perfect. no rain. but at least we had a contingency plan if it did rain. there are two rooms, one being bigger then the other but if you are getting married there, the chapel can really only accomodate 130. we got married outside, but if it rained, we would have gotten married in the chapel. the fd is next door and they wait to begin any ceremony until after the sirens have gone off. honestly, never heard them. during our ceremony, i heard ducks quacking. that was awesome. the smell...i have no idea what anyone is talking about. they have tide gates so that even during low tide, they keep water in so that there isn't a smell. def. do a search on thatched cottage brides, and also there is a thread on thatched cottagites! look under brides review too. good luck.

Re: Thatched Cottage?

Well, FH is home and here's his review. Please remember that this is from a vendors point of view. He sees things that guests will not.

He said that the place is absolutely gorgeous. He did say that he had the best view of the house since he faced the windows and the guests of honor had their backs to them. Something to think about? Maybe change the set-up of the room if you want the window view. I have never been there so I don't know that layout of the room.

He also said that there was no smell at all and the lake was absolutely beautiful.

He said that the food was okay. His piece of prime rib was fatty (but remember he was a vendor, not a guest). And the veggies were excellent. One thing he liked was that vendors eat in a seperate room than the guests. But since he had to play music - he didn't get much time to eat (this is a hazard of his job - not a venue issue).

That's all I got from him. He had a power struggle with the MD but everything went off without a hitch. He had the dance floor packed the entire night, people didn't even leave to get cake (good job FH!)

Re: Thatched Cottage?

I visited there as a potential hall but did not get a chance to sample the food, but I always heard good things about that there.

The venue was beautiful. The ballroom was very nice, although, the ceiling seemed to be a bit low for the size of the room. The outside was gorgeous. Someone mentioned to me about the smell off of the bay as well but when I went there there was nothing that I noticed. I did notice that there were a lot of brid or duck droppings (sorry to be gross!) on the walk but I would hope they clean that up before an event.

The prices per person were also extremely reasonable, with a lot of offerings.

Have you booked an appointment to see it yet?

Re: Thatched Cottage?

Yes I've been there twice with my FH. He really loves it... I'm still not sure. We are going for a food tasting on wed with our families, so hopefully that will make my mind up for me.... I'm totally nuts about booking a place. I want everything to be perfect. Good thing I have two years.

Re: Thatched Cottage?

I got married there 2 weeks agot oday and it was great!! They redid the Rose Room and it has enough room for 250 now. WE had 154 and there was PLENTY of room. THe dance floor is bigger and the band actually sat in the wall, so they werent on the dance floor. It was HOT that day. WE did have the ceremony outside, but our CH was mostly inside with the AC blasting. I have not one complaint about that day....everything was great. And if you want an added dessert, go for the build your own ice cream sundae bar! It was a HUGE hit, esp since it was so hot outside. Here are some pics from the reception

Re: Thatched Cottage?

I was married there this past October and it was outstanding.

The food was incredible and the presentation is very different from other halls. Instead of those silver covered plates, they actually roll out these really cool servers in the middle of the floor and prepare all the plates in front of the guests. There were so many oohs and ahhs when that happened.

They also offer everyone seconds, something I've never heard of anywhere else either. It's was great. The food tasted amazing (yes, I actually ate at my wedding).

The cocktail hour was also phenomenal. We did a mashed potato bar people are still talking about.

There was no smell issue - this is something you will hear anywhere on the water when there is low tide. The town controls the level of the lake, and from time to time they drain it to kill the seaweed. But they guarantee that the water will be full for the wedding (believe me, I confirmed this EVERY time we met with them).

I found them to be very accommodating and helpful with any issues I had throughout the planning process and I didn't have to talk to them at all the night of - everything went off just as planned.

I had heard lots of negative things about them after I booked but before my wedding that made me really really nervous and stressed. But every bride I've talked to here that had their wedding there loved them and I highly recommend them.

It's been almost 9 months and everytime I run into a friend that had been there, they still rave about it.

FM me if you want any more info. Good luck with your planning!!

Re: Thatched Cottage?

I should also add, to my very long post...lol...that they did a great job of decorating.

Ours was a halloween themed wedding (lots of pumpkins and black & oranges) and they had these cool carved pumpkins and the linens matched and the cake looked unbelieveable.

I don't have pics on this computer. but I'll post some when I get online at work tomorrow.

Thought I would mention this since your wedding is around the same time of year.
