Soooooo....what did you think?I'm still taking it all in. I watched the HP3 movie last night and I really can't see how the upcoming movies will continue to succeed. I just felt sad watching the movie, knowing how book 6 ends.

Wow. I completely missed him saying that. I suppose that's why having one last visit to the Dursley's will be so important to keep his special protection until his 17th birthday.

Towards the end after the funeral they talk about whether or not the school will close... and Harry says something about... no matter what happens he will not be returning cuz he needs to look for the other pieces of the horcruxes...

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
What I want to know is, how are they ever going to do it, without Dumbledore? No one else had much knowledge without his guidance and intuition! Or can he help by talking to them from his portrait in his office, like the other headmasters can? Why can't they do that with Sirius? It will be very interesting to see what happens... why did he trust Snape? Why did he plead for his life?
what do you guys think of the phoenix rising from his grave?

I just finished reading it and I'm so sad! I can't imagine what book 7 is going to be like without Harry being at Hogwarts and without Dumbledore.

You know, I've wondered that too, and if portraits can talk, why wouldn't harry have one made of his parents so he could talk to them? Maybe I missed something, but that always annoyed me.
As for this book. ehh. It wasn't as great as I hoped it would be.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
A few responses. FH mentioned to me before that Dumbledor had to die because Harry needed to do somehting on his own. I didn't want to think about that, but as I was reading Book 6 it occured to me that everything Harry has done has been with an extraordinary amount of help, always being bailed out by dumbledore, even in those last moments with the Inferi. So it was necessary that Dumbledore die for there to be a true confrontation between Harry and Voldemort. I'm so sad about it though. The Phoenix rising from the grave thing... We've seen though tonks, harry, and of course Dumbledore himself how much a part of a person's soul a patronus is, so I think the phoenix rising from the grave, aside from being heavily symbolic, may be an indication that when someone dies his/her patronus rises. Maybe the patronus is the soul rising, or maybe it's just a final message from the deceased. Who knows?
Harry did say that he would not return to Hogwarts even if it was open. How could he? Now that he's learned all he can from Dumbledore, what more will school do for him? He's no longer protected there, and with the Death Eaters multiplying, Voldy increasing in power and the only one Voldy ever feared now eliminated, there's nothing to stop all hell breaking loose. Harry needs to act quickly if he wants to stop the Dark Lord. He can't just sit in school studying advanced charms and wait for Voldy to come get him! He has to go destroy the remaining horcruxes.
Harry broke up with Ginny, and we didn't hear from her after that, but Hermione and Ron said they would go with him on his journey and also not return for their 7th year.
I'm interested to see what happens in the next book of course, regarding the ministry, whether Harry will have support there or whether he's going to have to have an all out war with them too, similar to the conditions in Book5. I also wonder what Harry will do to increase his power. it's quite amazing that he has been able to come so far and also that the most dedicated D.A members were able to do so well (even considering that they were aided by the F.F potion), but he and his fellows haven't really shown to be exceptionally skillful wizards. Maybe skillful for 16 year olds, but not to match dark wizards such as Voldemort, look how tripped up he got when trying to duel Snape.
Anyway, I think a LOT of Shippers were satisfied by this book....or unsatisfied as it were.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
Oh about the portraits, I think it's really just a shadow, something that would behave as the person would behave, but not a true link to the person beyond the grave. Like with Sirius' mother. She shouts and rants and raves rather as the real Mrs. Black would have done had 'mudbloods' invaded her home, but the real Mrs. Black who lies somewhere beyond the grave has no awareness of what's going on. In other words the painting is just an impression left behind, not an actual link to the person.

Regulus Black - Sirius' brother who was a Death Eater.
ETA: I'm pretty certain the handwriting is similar, even.

I wonder if his protection will still be there now that Dumbledore is gone. Will it be like that immobilzation spell he cast on harry at the end? Harry couldn't move or talk but he said he knew Dumbledore was dead as soon as he was able to move again.
I think Harry will wind up back at Hogwarts, he will need a homebase as he looks for the horcruxes.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
I think that Dumbledore was pleading with Snape to kill him before Malfoy got the guts to spare him. I think it will turn out that Snape is already cursed from being a Death Eater in the past, and he's trying to save HP and Malfoy from being cursed. I think that's why when they were fighting at the end he said to HP something about no illegal curses for him. I think Snape and Dumbledore agreed that when the time came Snape should kill DD to 'prove' to Voldermort how dedicated he is and then he can work from the inside to help/save Harry. I think Snape has a love/hate thing with Harry b/c he hated his dad, but had an unrequited love thing for his mom.I think RAB will end up being Sirrus's brother, I think the locket they found in Grimmuld Place in OotP is the horcrux.
But who knows....I tend to get too into this stuff. LOL.

Hey, interesting theory! You're the first person I've talked to who actually entertained the idea that Snape is not a traitor after all. I can see that...hmmmm...
I was really sad, too, but at the same time, Harry does have to grow up and do things on his own. They might still have Hogwarts next year, even if Harry, Ron, and Hermione won't be back - maybe McGonagall will be Headmistress?

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
There's a lot of speculation about Snape. That is the wuestion isn;t it? After chapter 2, it just seems too obvious that Snape has been a traitor all along. FH also thinks DD was begging Snape to kill him, but I'm really not sure why.As always, Jo has left us with a mystery that cannot be solved based on our current clues. Damn her! :-P

I also thought DD was pleading with Snape to kill him. It may just be Harry's time to stand alone. If it isnt the case, I hope she lets us know why DD trusted Snape for so long.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
I thought that the book was great but I was NOT happy with some of the events. Dumbledore had to be killed by SNAPE of ALL people!? You'd think he would have died a little more regally or something against a better opponent. I don't know how I'm going to like the next book. There are so many things that can happen in it!! But this movie is going to be so sad!!!!

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
I believe that it was all a set up. Dumbledore mentioned to Malfoy about how if he joined the right side they could make everyone believe he and his family were dead. I think that Snape is still on the good side, but has to remain convincing to Voldemort. I agree that RAB is Sirius's brother.Welcome New Vendors
