Has anyone known anyone who's gotten pregnant while on the pill?

I know they say it's 99.9% accurate, but does anyone know of that .1% who did? Also, how accurate are those home pregnancy kits? Sorry so many questions....TIA

I was reading in Shape magazine that overweight woman actually have a much greater chance of getting PG on the pill. It's something like 70% effective if your weight is considered obese. And less effective if you vary when you take it or miss days. I don't know anyone who has though.

I do, but I think there's taking the pill and then there's TAKING the pill. It is 99.9% effective if you take it every day at the same time. I think there are loads of people who don't do that 365 days a year and that is when the pregnancies occur.

I had a friend who at least a few times a year was playing the 'well, I skipped it for 2 days, so I can take 2 pills a day for 2 days and I'll be OK....' I think that might be effective for some people, and that is what it says on the directions, but it also says to use backup and I don't think everyone does.

The person I knew did get pregnant and had an amnio to make sure the baby was OK and all was fine.

SO WIERD! I was just thinking about this topic.
I hear from girls on the prego board that they got preg not having planned it often right after getting married. My question is...if they planned on waiting for a while after getting married, then why not be on BC. I feel that way, wanting to wait awile after having gotten marrying and took the proper precautions, pill. Its that important to me not to risk the 'pull out' method. I've been on the pill for 7 years- take it religiously everyday and have been good ever since. plan on stopping two months before TTC.
I think its too important to be left to chance.

I agree. I've never, ever missed a day in 10 years (knock on wood). I don't take the inactive week though--is there any good to them? My dr said there isn't, but I would think they should at least put vitamins or something in them.

I throw out the inactive week pills. A girlfriend of mine got pg a few months after her wedding - she was not too happy initially but now obviously, he's the light of her life :)

The thing is though, I asked her why not get on the pill for the time they don't want to get PG, and she said 'uk, no way. Our method works fine'. REALLY?
If you're not on the pill, or the patch and take it everyday, then don't be surprised when you're PG.

I plan to start BC right away...right after I go to the gyno for the first time!!!
I wanna go on it so I dont have to have my period on my wedding night.

Nope! I know I shoulda went when I was 18 (I'm 22, almost 23 now), but I have white coat syndrome-lol.
Plus I haven't had full ins. the past years...

Well I've only been w/my fiancee (we're together almost 7 years)...hes only been w/me too.....and we are very safe

My SIL tried to tell me she was 'allergic' to the pill!! WHAT-it is hormones!! I have taken the pill for 14 years (off to get pregnant and be pregnant twice!!) and don't see what the big deal is. My alarm goes off in the morning, I roll over, put the pill in my mouth, and go on my merry way-lol!! What is so HARD about that!!
Sorry-I just have always had a problem with people who say they are 'surprised' when they get pregnant. HOW can you be surprised when you don't use any type of bc??

The only time I have heard of this happeneing is if you are traveling international/overseas, something about time change, etc....

My sister and I both got pregnant while on the pill....but we both had minor procedures done shortly before becoming prego....the doc thinks that the procedures may have caused us to ovulate...even though we were on the pil...my sister also admitted to taking cough medicine the month that she got prego...so that could have played a factor as well.

I guess it comes down to the fact that there is ALWAYS that chance of pregnancy.

Like someone said..taking the pill every day at the exact same time is around 99% effective. But...missing one day..or taking it hours after you're used to...being on an antibiotic...etc...can lower its effectiveness.

I do think that those who got pg on the pill probably in most cases missed a day...or were on an antibiotic and didn't realize it lowered the effectiveness a lot...my doc did say that if you take it at the same time every day its very very difficult to conceive.

Who knows though?? Medicine affects everyone differently!

I am very diligent about taking it every day.
I was soooo paranoid in Hawaii, because I didnt know when to take the pill, NY time, or Hawaii time? I was freaking out!! Thank god AF is here.

I figure thats probably the reason people have accidental honeymoon babys. But I sure as anything am NOT ready.

In college my roomate got preggers on the pill. She was taking it correctly but it happened anyway.
