:( my VERY good friend isn't coming to my wedding. :(

my very good friend just told me she won't be coming to my wedding. we met in kindergarten, and stayed best friends even after she moved to toronto in 5th grade. i was her MOH and i flew up twice in the same week for her big day because i had to be back for a very important exam in the middle of that week. we grew slightly apart in the recent years, like we no longer talk on the phone on a daily basis, but we're still good friends.

and today, she just told me she has 2 other weddings to go to that weekend in - her husband's cousin's wedding, and her godmother's son's wedding.

i told her about my wedding date almost a year ago as soon as i decided on it. i know my wedding obviously isn't the biggest concern in her life and i don't expect her to drop everything because of that. but those people... she doesn't even see them once a year. i am just disappointed....

I had a similiar situation. It was very disappointing, it ended up costing us our friendship. Really it was just the last straw. Whatever you do, do NOT let it ruin your big day.

I would be very upset but I would not let it ruin your day. If it was me though I would probably not put any effort into that friendship anymore.

I can understand you being upset, hurt, and disappointed...you know where your friendship lies with her. Sorry

I am sorry. One of my firends emailed me that she will not be coming from Boston. I am really upset about it. She knew about the wedding since June 2004. She even had her brother not pick my weekend as his date to get married. And now she is not coming. I am sad.

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. One of my friends backed out about two weeks before our wedding because she couldn't find a sitter for her children. While this is a good reason, I also thought she could have gone to the wedding herself (there were other mutual friends of ours there, so it's not like she'd be alone) and had her husband watch the kids.

Oh well, we have been drifting apart, but it still bothered me. Sorry to hear this is happening to you also!

I'm so sorry to hear that. and especially after you flew there TWICE in one week for her. that's wrong.

ETA: a 'friend' of mine is pulling the same stunt with me. I was her MOH years ago but now that it's my turn, she can't afford it (she moved to GA). But she felt it necessary to tell me about her new $30K diamond engagement ring that her husband bought her last month.

so sorry. i'm kinda in a similar situation... my fh's mother's side --- all of whom are in the united states aren't coming. they just checked off decline with regret with no explanation though they had been saying they were coming all along... fh's cousin's daughter was supposed to be one of our flowergirls, so now we have 1 fg instead of 2.

the nerve of some people... they just don't GET IT.

So sorry for you, that *****. I know whereof you speak, I have a very good friend who will probably not be coming to our wedding and it's not fair. You make an effort and it is not reciprocated. You cannot control it. You have done what you can and at some point you have to let it go. Best of luck!

I also had a similiar situation.
One of my closets friends from childhood through college did not come to my wedding for some stupid reason (said she couldn't get off from work...meanwhile my wedding was on a weekend, and she didn't work on the weekends...but that's another story).

So, I was really upset for a few weeks, but then I quickly forgot, and became absorbed with all the wedding excitement.

After the wedding video came back, I sent this friend a copy...she called me immediately and was so upset and filled with regret that she didn't go....oh well, it's their loss.
