spinoff to Catholic bride question
If you are having a Catholic wedding, but don't really attend mass on a regular basis, what was pre cana like?I am worried I won't remember all the prayers I am supposed to know and will get in trouble or kicked out or something!

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
My fiance and I just had pre cana last weekend and it was fine. There were about 10 couples and most of us were in the same boat, we hadn't gone to mass in a while, but the priest seemed to kind of expect that. You have a couple talk to you most of the time. Ours was really laid back. We did an all day thing not a long weekend.Hope this helps!

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
Pre-cana was wonderful, really one of the best experiences of the whole planning process. And we aren't 'all catholic-y'
and didn't need to know all prayers.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
I don't think you have anything to worry about at all. I think they know that a lot of young Catholics are not perfect in mass attendance (including me and FH) and are just there to help us

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
Am I weird? I hardly ever go to church and my FH never goes but I'm kind of looking forward to Pre-cana. I think it it might be interesting.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
We just started going back to mass fairly regularly after we were engaged and finished Pre-Cana on Wednesday. It was fine, you don't need to know prayers or anything and they all come back to you once you start anyway, at least it did for me.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
We didn't have to do any prayers, except for Our Father, but that was during mass. Our pre-canna kept a focus on us as a couple, not really religious.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
We didn't have mass or prayer at Pre-Cana...so I think everyone's experience is different. We loved it so much and I'm not even Catholic. It was a wonderful experience.

No and no. It was fun and interesting. We talk about a little bit of religous stuff but mostly how to be a 'healthy' couple and be good to each other. It was fun! We laughed so hard the whole time. Each night we went over in time and the couples said that we were the chattiest group they ever had. There were no prayers and no priest. All of the couples lived together and no one even blinked an eye about it.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
did the precana thing...and we actually got a lot out of it. we originally were going to do the whole day one, but then decided to break it up. The couple that held ours, did it from their home, and they were the most real, funny, comforting, and knowledgeable folks we could have met. We enjoyed it...cried...argued...laughed alot...and even plan on going back for a 'post-cana' once our album is done as a thank you to them.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
In pre cana this doesnt matter- BUT when you go to meet the priest- expect a dislike to it and sometimes a bit of an attitude- at least that is what we experienced- his exact words- ' why get married by the catholic church- why not just go and get your piece of paper at the town hall'----- this was said when he found out we live together. DH answered him b/c I was fuming.

I have to agree. I think we did a prayer in the beginning & end but it wasn't the our father or anything it was just one of the married couples saying a prayer. Pre-cana for us was all about talking about ourselves & eachother it was far from being catholic-y.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
We loved Pre Cana. I think each Parish has their own program. Ours was just one day and was not really that religious, except for the fact that we all went to Mass togehter at the end of the day.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
Oh dear...What church are you getting married at??
Most likely IF we choose to get married at a church it will be St Joseph's in Garden City.
Obviously my FH is not part of this religion.. that is another obstacle that we will have to face...
I CANNOT BELIEVE THE PRIEST SAID THAT... I would be like... 'Well why do so priest become a priest if thy are going to wind up molesting little boys!? Why not just skip the entire priest-hood and go directly to jail'
There are some things I second guess about the religion... which is my only hesitation... my FH is happy with anything that I choose to do... He is the greatest!
