Speaking of ettiquite
Ok, here's the deal. I am flying to NY sometime in March for my shower. I do not want to have to pay a fortune to ship all of the gifts back to NC. Is it 'tacky' for my sister to write on my invites that gifts should be sent directly to me or should I shell out all this money to get the gifts shipped to my home in NC?TIA

Re: Speaking of ettiquite
When you register, give your address in NC as the address you want things shipped to, some people will send it directly to you, either they don't want to carry something heavy, or they can't make it to the shower.I wouldn't have your sister write anything on the invite, people will most likely want to see you open gifts....good luck!

I do not think it is. Also when you register, if people buy online - make sure you have the correct 'ship to' address.eta - although I didn't think about the whole watching people open gifts thing, that could be a problem. Unless you aren't doing that, some people dont.

Re: Speaking of ettiquite
use the 'ship to' address of your NC home. But, saddly, most people will insist on bringing gifts to the shower to watch you open them (even if your sister does request that they be shipped to NC)

I agree, that is like the main event at a shower. People like to see what gifts you get.
Cant you drive? to save on shipping?

I suppose I could drive. Rent an SUV or something. I just have made that drive like 10 times and it suuucks. I will think it over, that may be the best way to do it. Thanks girls

Re: Speaking of ettiquite
I don't think you can specifically request that all gifts be shipped there -- but, I do think that you should do what others suggested and make sure your NC address is the one listed, so that those who send will send there. What about leaving the gifts there if you plan to fly and then just taking them back to NC one of the other times you plan on driving?
BTW- I sympathize with you -- I am an out of stater too.

For my friends whower we aksed that the gifts be shipped directly to her in the invitations. I don't think that's rude, it would have been a pain for her to ship everything down to Louisville herself.

Re: Speaking of ettiquite
where are you registered?? I live in FL & my shower was in NY in July. I registered at Bed Bath & Beyond- I was able to bring all my gifts into the local NY store & they shipped them for me for free!!! I also registered at Macy's, but didn't get as much from there- some big stuff I returned & rebought when I got back home... SOME people sent big gifts to my house in FL... overall, I was really worried how I would do all that- but it worked out fine! :o) You could put in your invite 'it would be greatly appreciated if gifts could be shipped'. I wouldn't write flat out 'Mail gifts to brides home'

I am registering at BB&B. If they would ship them, that would be GREAT. Thanks so much for telling me that.
