Poll - getting married before the real wedding day

Have any of you thought about having a private civil ceremony before the actual wedding day?

I think an 05 bride did it and I'm considering it.

We did talk about it But only because we thought i was going to need surguy on my mouth and I dont have dentail insc just reg. medical

Sure, I think about it sometimes when all the wedding planning gets overwhelming. I know my FH has been ready and is just waiting for the day to come. He wouldn't think 2x if I said c'mon lets go, but I want to have a wedding with everyone there so I know I won't go through with it.

We will have to do this... Since we are getting married in a church overseas the church requires that we have a marriage certificate at least 10 days before the wedding. Since we are getting married here 5/21, this would not allot enought time... so yes, we are going to do this!

ETA: We are only doing it because we have too, we looked at other options, but there aren't any(I didn't want too)... we will still have a 'mock' ceremony on our wedding day though....

not at all. I want the whole thing, not to cheat ahead of time. But, I totally understand why folks do it.

I'd do it if I needed to for medical/insurance reasons.

But otherise, no, I want the full day.

When you sign the marriage certif before hand you really are all ready married once you have the ceremony

The thought never crossed my mind, actually. I could understand if needed for medical insurance or something, but no, I want the full day.

We were going to, we have the license and even made the appointment, but changed our minds b/c of our parents. We were going to do it so I could get health benefits.

only sometimes when the wedding stuff overwhelmes me other than that naa i would wait and am going to wait

I was considering it. The church will marry us on site if we are first married in the church building (the on site ceremony would be considered a renewal ceremony). I decided against it.

I will most likely end up doing this. Very privately though (only my parents will know) at city hall a few months before the big wedding. We are doing this because FH is not allowed to live off post nor can he be assigned married housing until the military has a marriage certificate on file. If we wait til July we will end up not living together for the 1st month and we want to avoid this.

If we do it before July it gives us time to look for an apartment, set it up and if necessary put our names down on the on post housing waiting list.

I tried to bribe him saying Id give him $10,000 to marry me by the end of the year so I could file married and save a lot more than that. Hey, it would be OUR $$ anyway right?

But Im being a good girl and being patient.

We talked about it for a similar reason. Before I found my current job, I had no health insurance whatsoever. We toyed with the idea so I could have insurance.

I was thinking about doing it because I just found out that FH is going to need knee and back surgery in a few weeks. I'm really nervous that he may not feel up to walking down an aisle by June depending on how long his recovery lasts. And I dont want to wait any longer than June!

no haven't thought about it at all. i want it all to happen in one day. but i understand why some people have to.
