Re: nyc marriage license

Can NYC residents go to LI Town halls to get their licence? That's easier for me then going into Queens, both FH and I work in LI.

Re: nyc marriage license

It says:

A couple who intends to be married in New York State must apply in person for a marriage license to any town or city clerk in the state.

I got all the info on:

http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/married.htm

or just google 'marriage-license New-York

Re: nyc marriage license

I got my marriage license in Manhattan. All you need is a driver's license (or passport) and a money order for $35. Each office has different requirements, but the one downtown only requires 1 form of identification.

Re: nyc marriage license

On Long Island the fee is $40, and you need one offical document without a pic (Birth cert, Baptismal doc, etc..) & Passport or Driver's license. Once you get it, its good for 60 days starting the day after you get it & anywhere in NYS.

We just got ours last week!

Same with brooklyn, we just used our passports. You need a money order, but in brookyn they have a post office right in the building....

Re: nyc marriage license

If you're ceremony is going to be in NYC, I believe you must get your license in one of the five boroughs...My uncle is my officiant, and he said that NYC has their own process that's separate from the state. I guess that it usually doesn't matter where you go to get your license (as long as it's in the state where your ceremony will be), except in the case of those getting married in NYC...I will try to find the website where I found this info so I can post the link.

My uncle (who has been a priest in Nassau County his whole life) also needed to get a special license from the city in order to perform our ceremony (even though he's licensed by the state of NY).
