Non-strapless Dress

Hi All!
I am starting to look for a dress, but I do not want a strapless dress. Unfortunately that seems to be the popular style and I am not sure where to look. I called one place, Lilletes, and they recommended possibly waiting until January when the new styles come in because they mostly have strapless dresses. Does anyone have any suggestions for wedding dress shops that offer dresses that are not all strapless? Thanks!!

Re: Non-strapless Dress

I was in the same boat, the one thing i knew I wanted was NO strapless, but everything, even bridesmaid dresses are all in strapless. I don't get it, but i got my dress in New Jersely though, so I doubt you want to travel that far, but they have a great website and alot have nice straps. they have many many more that are not on the site, mine is the last one on the bottom of the third page. good luck

Re: Non-strapless Dress

I had a tricky time with this myself. I was told at a few places that strapless is what everyone wants right now, so that is what they mostly have. What it came down to for me, was doing research on my own and finding specific designers and dresses that weren't strapless. Then I made calls to find out which places had those dresses and designers I liked. (For me it was Pronovias.)

Good luck!

Re: Non-strapless Dress

I got my dress at Paradise in Patchogue. I also looked in Macy's (smithaven mall, little expensive) and Fantasia Bridal in Rocky Point.

All three places had a decent selection of non-strapless gowns.

My gown has 3/4 length sleeves, and I love it! good luck!

Re: Non-strapless Dress

You can add straps or sleeves to almost every single dress - so don't rule out 'the one' just b/c it's strapless.

Re: Non-strapless Dress

I tried on dresses that were not strapless at Paradise Bridal and also Bridal Reflections in Carle PLace.
However, I had the same thoughts as you - I DID NOT want a strapless dress. What did I get? A strapless dress. You never know until you try them on, so don't be closed minded when you go into the stores. Also as Christine said, you can have straps put onto any dress.

Re: Non-strapless Dress

Lillette's does have dresses that are 'with straps' --- mine being one of them.

I wouldn't suggest 'putting on sleeves' - I thought of doing that but sometimes it just ruins the look of a dress. If you look, you will find gorgeous ones.

My BM dresses are halter and my dress is a Sabrina Neckline.

I also suggest Macy's Manhasset.

Re: Non-strapless Dress

I had the same problem. I ended up with a Demetrios dress from Macys. It has sheer sleeves. Demetrios has several like that. They look nicer in person than in the Demetrios ads.

Last months Brides magazine had a lot more dresses with sleeves than before. It had some of the Demetrios styles (but not my exact one). The trend my be moving away from the strapless, if that magazine is a predictor.

I say to try Macy's.

Re: Non-strapless Dress

I had the same thing... I did NOT want a strapless dress. I ended up with a Jasmine dress b/c they will custom make it for you. I tried the strapless and loved the dress so much, and they were able to change the top of the dress for me and it's absolutley gorgeous! You can check out pics in my community bio

Re: Non-strapless Dress

It isn't so much the dress shops but the designers you should look at. I knew I wanted a halter and so I searched online and looked at only those. Then I went to Macy's and Paradise Bridal and they had plenty of halters for me to try on. Good luck with your search!!

I first looked at RK Bridal in NYC...they have SO many choices! I went with the Maggie Sottero Grace Marie...it's much nicer in person than in the picture...

Re: Non-strapless Dress

I went to 3 different bridal shops and at all of the shops I tried on gowns that either had straps or had the option to have straps added on. All of the shops were very accommodating.

Re: Non-strapless Dress

remember, you can always have straps added!!! when i was looking for dresses, i was opposed to strapless bc i didnt think i would look good in them, but after reluctantly trying them on, i found my dress and its strapless. anyways, the sales people always told me you could add straps to the strapless. i did try on a few with straps at fantasias. good luck! ~lacey

Re: Non-strapless Dress

There are a bunch of great dresses with straps at Lillette's (I tried on many of them). For the longest time I didn't want a strapless dress but when I started trying them on I actually found them to be very flattering (some styles, not all...as with all dresses). Try to keep an open mind and you'll find the perfect dress for you!
