Meeting the Rabbi, seeing the NEW ballroom tomorrow...

FH and I are going to the temple tomorrow to meet with the Rabbi to discuss our ceremony and for some pre-marital counseling. We have never met him before and I, for one, am very excited. We both grew up in rather conservative congregations and are looking forward to using as many old-fashioned traditional Jewish customs as possible.

I realize it is not the same as Pre-Cana, but I can surely appreciate what the Catholic brides and grooms go through to make religion and culture a part of their weddings and married lives. This is one of those steps that allows you to see your future spouse in a light you may have never seen before.

Also, we finally get to see the finished ballroom. When we booked the temple, they were just about to break ground on construction. So basically, with the exception of pictures, I have no idea what the room for my reception looks like. Though a couple of brides here told me it is great. I am very excited and anxious to see. I will take pictures.

Good luck! There are so many beautiful Jewish traditionals that you can add to the wedding, it should be fun to get feedback from the Rabbi. The place is beautiful, you'll be amazed by the changes. I love the star of david on the floor of the front entrance, you'll have to check that out. I'm very excited for you!!

Re: Meeting the Rabbi, seeing the NEW ballroom tomorrow...

Thanks!

I am so glad there are others getting married there so we can exchange ideas! I havent been there since the summer. My nephew's Bar Mitzvah is there on Saturday night and although it won't be decorated like a wedding, it will be a good indicator of how the food and service is.

We both decided that I will walk around FH seven times. Many Jewish brides do not like the tradition because they think it shows a submission (of sorts) to a man but I LOVE it. I love the elegance and pageantry of it. It will also allow us to focus on each other and tune everything else out!

I love it too! There something very beautiful about the bride circling the groom. I'm thinking of doing a badeken or veiling, when the men come in to make sure that it's the correct bride. We're not religious at all, but any traditional elements that I can add, I will!

Re: Meeting the Rabbi, seeing the NEW ballroom tomorrow...

We will do a private Bedeken of just the family and the bridal party. I will have a moment where FH sees me for the first time and after the Ketubah signing, he will place the veil over my head. Check this out, guess whose Hebrew name is Leah? So it is only fitting that I have a bedeken right?
