do invites have to match the color of your or your girls dress?- updated with pics of paper colors!!
someone please help. fh and I are in a battle royal with these invites (not really fighting, just have trouble deciding on something we both want)I wish I had pics but I don't, but I want to use bronze metallic paper for the invite cardstock, with a vellum overlay flecked with silver, bronze, and gold. he thinks that will be too 'dark' for spring and wants to use a silver metallic vellum with an 'ocean blue' vellum overlay.
we are torn and my question is...will it matter if not much else in the wedding (beside the cps and stuff) is metallic to use the bronze paper?
are you girls matching your invites to your wedding colors (aqua and pink just don't seem to adequately convey the formality for me)
please help!

Re: do invites have to match the color of your or your girls dress?
I didn't. My girls are in navy and ivory and my invites where white with a lilac-ish ink. Navy would not have looked right with such a dark colored ink and the sample looked so pretty, I just went with that.

Re: do invites have to match the color of your or your girls dress?
jess:you are my long-lost sister.
i was having issues about this too. my girls are in deep purple but i didn't want that to be my invites. but with my OCD, i really wanted things to flow well.
my compromise was having the antique gold (similar to Christine's).
in my lowly opinion, I feel that invitiations should be formal (if it is a formal affair) and that they don't have to match the 'color' scheme, but complement in some way.
i like the idea of setting it apart a bit.... I'm going to use the gold on all my 'paper' details and leave the purple for the dress and flowers.

I don't have any 'girls' to match but I am using the colors from my over all scheme for my invites.I don't think you have to though, and I vote for your choice. The metallic look is fancy, I like it.

Hi. I asked my invitation place and they told me invites do not need to match your color. they said it should represent the style of wedding you are having. i am going with the metallic cardstock too. a few invitation places told me this was the lastest style of invitation. also remember that your invite is going out in probably february so the darker color will be okay....

Re: do invites have to match the color of your or your girls dress?
ok...here are the colors so maybe you can visualize..first is silver cardstock wrapped with the blue vellum (will have silver ribbon with wax seal on the front. not sure yet of the lettering)
the second is the bronze paper with the flecked vellum (wrapped in either silver or gold ribbon with metallic lettering)

I think gold letters and a gold ribbin woul dlook fabulous with this invite...and it would match your girls' dresses as well...Im trying to match everything as best as I could...not color for color, but give it an effect of a similar color scheme...

Now that you have posted colors, I see why you're having a problem. I'm anal, so my invite ink & inner envelope liner will be the same color as my girl's dresses. (anal to the point that I held the fabric swatch up to the ink colors to get the best match
)However, what is good for me, might not be good for you. Both invites IMHO, would look good, but I think your FH is on the right track with the lighter color for spring.

No, the invites I chose look like paintings of seashells. I haven't decided the color for my linens yet, but my BM dresses will look nothing like that.

I have to agree with D...it's a tough decision you h ave ahead of you.Honestly, the bronze metallic is too dark for my taste. If it were more golden (lighter than darker) then I would say differently.

My invites were white and lavender with pastels. MY BM dresses were burgundy-my flowers were peach and ivory.Nothing matched it and looked beautiful. There will never be a time when your invite and the dresses will be together.

Mine didn't match. My colors are plum and lavendar, and my invites are white with a pearl border.

we are using red as the focus for both...but the reds definitely do not 'match'....honestly, I think the only people who would notice are other brides that are also planning their weddings

I am having this issue too because the invites I want have tinges of silver in them and we are doing gold and red in our centerpieces, favors, monograms, etc

Re: do invites have to match the color of your or your girls dress?- updated with pics of paper colors!!
I never gave any thought to color of my invitations matching ANYTHING. My invites are simple and classic- ecru with black writing and a gold lining on the inner envelope. My girls are not wearing ecru, black or gold. Those colors are rather typical and standard in Leslie's wedding world. With my obsessive nature, if I matched everything I'd have a mental breakdown. IMO its a little much to match everything.1) My invites
