When is too early to book?
First, let me tell you that I'm an organization anal nut and I want everything done perfectly. That being said I want to run out and book everything right now so I know it's done. We're getting married on 11/3/07 so we have a little under two years. Our hall and church will be booked next week. I'm thinking the next big things to book will be the band, videographer and photographer and after that I'll do limos, flowers, etc. little by little.
Am I crazy to be booking things this early? I want to make sure I get my date secured with the places, people I want. Will ppl. think I'm crazy when I book two years ahead???

Re: When is too early to book?
i think its fine. I started booking 18 months before my wedding..and my church was already booked!!! But i found a nicer church...thank god!!!plus my photographer already has 4-5 weddings on the same day as mine...
so it could never hurt to start looking. i dont know if you need to do flowers yet...but as for the limos..if you want special cars (rolls royce, escalades, etc.) then i would look into it earlier then if you just wanted regular stretch limos.

Re: When is too early to book?
OK, then I'm not getting too ahead of myself - thanks for the reassuring. I would rather just have things booked and know it's secure.

I will bump the list of things to do for you. My main purpose of doing things now is to lock in all the rates!

Re: When is too early to book?
Good point about locking in 2005 prices, didn't really think of that. Price is a big thing!!!

Re: When is too early to book?
I am anal too about getting things booked. My hall and church are booked. I am checking out a couple of florists this weekend. My FI has calls into the DJ and Limo company we'd like to use. After the florist I will be looking into photography and video. My only concern is when I am done what will I do.

Re: When is too early to book?
If I were you I would look into photo right after hall. The good ones are taken quickly. Lets take for example Duet, they have 4 teams, and if you look at the list of girls on this site using them alone, you will be surprised.

I need to book a hall ---I'm getting married the day after Thanksgiving, and I've been told that it's a very popular date.
I am visiting my final hall tomorrow, and then we'll decide on a place....we want to book before Thanksgiving.

Re: When is too early to book?
I kept thinking people would think I was crazy for booking things so far in advance. But then I called one of the bands I wanted to check out and they are already booked for my date! So from now on, I don't care how early it is...I'm booking!

Plus on here alone you have 5 date mates. Can you imagine how many more are out there?

No you're not crazy! I'm the same way, I'm getting everything booked now. I already booked my hall, I'm booking my church next tuesday, have my photographer and florist, I even have my dress!! I know what invites I want (but i'm waiting on those). My next big thing is DJs and Limos..and think of it this way, you book now and you get the 2005 price, which is definitely cheaper than whatever 2006 is going to be!

I'm having about 125 people, and I REALLY want to stay in Suffolk. I'm only able to guarantee 100.
ok here goes
-Stewart Manor CC (a little too far for us, but I love the ballroom. Not crazy about the CH space.)
-Timber Point CC (not sure about the layout)
-Watermill (not our style)
-East Wind (not MY style)
-Majestic Gardens (didn't like)
-Giorgio's (too expensive)
-Tall Grass CC (ok - price a little high for the package.)
-Harbor Club (didn't like the layout)
-Smithtown Landing CC (had my sweet 16 in the smaller room here, and FH's sister was married here in 2001.)
-Lessing's at Martha Clara Vineyards (large site fee)
-Villa Lombardi's (beautiful, but not our style.)
-Thatched Cottage (#1 choice right now, but it's over budget and we still have to schedule a tasting.)
And tomorrow we're going to see the Winter Garden Pavil. at Fox Hollow. I know it's not Suffolk, but I live on the North Shore, so it's really not TOO far from me.
Food is a huge concern for us, and location...you never know what the weather is going to be so late in November!!!
I'm realllllly not enjoying this search.

You aren't crazy at all! I'm getting married in June 2007...and I already have the hall, church, DJ and photographer/video booked and I have my dress ordered already!
But I'm not booking anything else until next year somtime.

Re: When is too early to book?
I found the dress I like but am concerned about ordering it now - almost two years ahead of time. My Mom would do the alterations so I'm not worried about that but I'm worried about perserving the dress.kam0813, you said you have your dress - how are you preserving it??

That is a great question! Will it discolor in 2 years? I dunno....I'm curious...I ordered my dress in september....I would have to hold it for about a year and half..maybe a little under...I never thought about that.
