Catholic Brides - Paperwork (Mini-Vent)
Okay my mini vent is not at the church per se, but since I went to Catholic School my whole life and we moved three times I have to go to three different churches to get copies of my baptismal, communion and confirmation certificates, now you would think and organization this big would have these things centrally located?? urgh!!
My question is this, did all of you have to go through this or is it just that I choose the most difficult (old-school) church to get married in??

Re: Catholic Brides - Paperwork (Mini-Vent)
I didn't have to get anything, since we're getting married at my church. However FH had to get his baptismal record. Then we had to have letters signed and notarized that we're not related & have never been married.

Re: Catholic Brides - Paperwork (Mini-Vent)
I only had to contact the church I was baptized in, they had my batismal certificate and on it was noted my communion and confirmation, even though I was only baptized in that church and did everything else in another church. Did you move out of state?

Re: Catholic Brides - Paperwork (Mini-Vent)
I booked my church but they didn't tell me that I need anything. Maybe thats because it's the church I went to my whole life. They told me I really don't need to deal with them until about 6 months before the wedding

Re: Catholic Brides - Paperwork (Mini-Vent)
I think most church only require your baptismal certificate. That's all my future father in law asked me to get (he is performing the service).
I offered to get my confitmation & communion certficates and he said that was not needed to get married, just your baptismal certificate, he has been a deacon in the catholic church for 25 years and performs wedding ceremonies almost every week sp I figure he would know. HTH

gee...this makes me worried...we're doing our ceremony at FH's church so he doesn't really have anything to worry about but me..yikes...my baptism, first communion, and confirmation are at three different churches..i feel your pain!

If you are getting married outside of the parish that you belong with , yes you have to get records of all your certificates as well as a release letter...

Re: Catholic Brides - Paperwork (Mini-Vent)
What I don't understand is I've had my 1st commnunion and confirmation at the church I am getting married at, yet they still insist on a NEW baptismal certificate!! I don't understand it?? Why is the old one good for those 2 things (and catholic school and ccd) but not for marriage!

Re: Catholic Brides - Paperwork (Mini-Vent)
You have to get a new baptismal certificate because each time you have a sacrament (i.e. communion, confirmation, marriage) the church where you were baptized is notified and a notation is made on your baptismal record. They request a new one to make sure that you are not married or have not been married before.

Re: Catholic Brides - Paperwork (Mini-Vent)
I am not Catholic, but I went to Catholic school for 13 years. If I remember correctly, one member of the union has to be a FULL member of the church, meaning they had to reeive baptism communion and confirmation in the CATHOLIC church. The other member must be baptized...they do not have to be a full member. I believe this is the case for all Christian marriages, but am not too sure on that. I am Lutheran and that is what my church required.

I was baptized in one church, and received my other sacraments at another - they should all be recorded on the back of your baptismal certificate...

Re: Catholic Brides - Paperwork (Mini-Vent)
I have the same problem..the church i was baptized in was in New Jersey. I say was b/c they closed down, so I had to go to the one where they transferred the records to, but I made my communion and confirmation in my parish in the bronx, and it's not recorded on my baptismal certificate. FH and I are getting married in his church, and they gave me a hard time, cause my communion and confirmation have to be recorded..i also did the release letter, but now have to go to the bronx to find my records and bring them to the church in queens...you're not the only one going through headaches...

That stinks. All I need is a baptism certificate. I dont even have to go to pre-cana. My church is laid back.

I'm getting married in the church I went to my whole life. But FH didn't have to bring any paperwork. I think he just told them the parish he belonged to.

Although I received all my sacraments at my former parish, i would agree that I think the baptismal certicate should have all your info on it. Its like your permanent record. Dont understand why you would need to go to three different churches. That stinks!

Re: Catholic Brides - Paperwork (Mini-Vent)
Im pretty sure that you just need baptisimal and communion certificates. And I dont think you actually have to go to the church--Im sure you can still call. And if that church doesnt exist you can call the diocese who would have a record. Its not really a big deal to call churches(even if it is 3) and have them mail a copy--think of all the other stuff you are doing and this is part of the actual getting married part of your wedding and not just the party!!Welcome New Vendors
