1st time homebuyer question

last year my friends went to apply for a mortgage...they got approved for 300K...now the guy was telling them about a 1st time homebuyer 'break' but they didnt qualify b/c they made over 100K....

what if u dont make over 100K anyone know about this 1st time home buyer thing?? we dont make over 100K..is it possible to get a mortgage or you have to make over 100K.
