NWR: I got a job!!!!!!!!! NYC baby
Hi guys, some of you may remember me getting laid off a few weeks ago. Well i plugged away at some interviews and I got one! After two interviews and meeting 5 people, I will be making more $$ than before, but it will be LONG days. 9-6 in nyc and that really means 7:30-7:30 by the time i leave and get home. Can any commuters share their lives with me? How do u find time to work out, eat well, etc. I am definitely going to bring my lunches. I did a post a while ago about working out and i hope i can keep at it with these hours. But hey, i'm making the big bucks now.........i gotta cope. This is the first nyc job i will have. I am used to LI jobs! After the winter, we will start looking for apartments, hopefully in ASTORIA! Yay!

Congrats!! I am currently working the same hours and commuting, so I know what you mean. It is hard at first and very tiring, but you get used to it. I am now very happy with my morning coffee and paper on the train! ha I also bring my lunch when I can, b/c it gets very expensive!Good Luck! Congrats again!

Re: NWR: I got a job!!!!!!!!! NYC baby
Congrats to you! Up until this year, I've always worked in NYC. I found it best to bring lunch EVERYDAY, and workout in the city. I joined a gym in the city b/c by the time I got home (after the dreadful train ride) I was too tired to go workout. You should look into whether or not your new job has their own private gym in the building. Good luck and congrats again!

Re: NWR: I got a job!!!!!!!!! NYC baby
Well, I've been commuting for the last 8 months, but am moving back into NYC soon..But, I can share my experiences with you. I run all my errands on lunch time (post office, bank, etc). I leave the dry cleaners and food shopping for the weekend. I bring my lunch all the time, because then I eat well and don't spend an insane amount of $$ of food (midtown NYC is so expensive, even for a sandwich) I go directly to the gym when I get home so I don't have time to sit on the couch and stay there. I read/nap on the train so I have more energy when I get to work and home later.
Good luck and congrats on the new job!

I work the same hours as you. I hate the commute. But you get used to it. Just another part of the day. I am making 20,000 more at this job than my last one on LI so that is great. But fitting in gym time is tough, I get out of work at 6:00 and get out of the gym by 7:30 - 8:00 ( i shower there so I wont be smelly and sweaty on the train)
And then I am home by 8:30 - 9:00
too late to do much

Re: NWR: I got a job!!!!!!!!! NYC baby
I work 8-6-7 most days. I work out on the weekends and one day during lunch during the week. I'm about to embark on a personal trainer one day a week.I take breakfast and lunch most days and even end up drinking sometimes after work. My DH works on LI and runs most of our errands if he has time.
It's a grind, but somehow I talk myself into getting up at 5:30 every day to make a 7:00 train.
I sleep late on the weekends.
The advice I will give you is that you will be tired for a few weeks, but your body will get used to it. Also, get yourself some warm boots and gloves and ear muffs for the winter...waiting at the train station for the (late) train stinks.
Oh-and congrats!!!!!!!

Re: NWR: I got a job!!!!!!!!! NYC baby
Thats great!! I started communting in the spring, and its not too awful. I leave my house at about 7 and come home around 6:30. I usually sleep or read on the train, and bring my ipod. If you don't bring lunches, there are definitely places you can go that are inexpensive for lunch. As for working out, its hard to find time. I go both days on the weekend and try to go on Mondays and/or Thursdays. I also take yoga on Wednesdays.
I feel more tired now when I get home because its dark out when I leave work and just so darn cold!
Congratualations on the job!

Re: NWR: I got a job!!!!!!!!! NYC baby
Congratulations! That's exciting news. I don't work in NYC any longer but when I did, I worked out at a gym in the city and went either before work or right after. I brought my lunches because eating out gets expensive there! Also, I tried to walk to my office if weather permitted. Sometimes it was a loooooong walk but it paid off because it kept the weight off. Good luck with everything!

If anyone knows about long commutes.. its me.
